My early pics or key horses for each race are:
BCF&MSprint: Miraculous Miss. She showed improvement in last, enough to convince me that this consistent closer is sitting on a big effort. La Traviata will run well enough to ensure a hot pace for Miraculous Miss to close.
BCJuvTurf: Look no further than Gio Ponti for a legitimate key and sure fire contender. Remaining contenders are Preaching Man, Prussian, and Year Round. Everyone else is a toss.
BCDirtMile: Discreet Cat is as solid as any for "single" consideration on BC day.
BCJuvFil: Grace Anatomy looks like a stand out. I expect major improvement and good betting value given her poor post. Other contenders include: Irish Smoke, Indian Blessing, Proud Spell and Clearly Foxy
BCJuvy: The toughest race of the card because if War Pass fails, anyone can win. But, given the importance of speed on this strip I think War Pass wires the field again.
BCFMTurf: Will have to give the edge to one of the 3 yo euros.
Passage of Time, Timarwa, All my Loving and Simply Perfect with eventual odds being the deciding factor. Among US runners I only like Precious Kitten.
BCSprint: A crap shoot but when forced to single will give the edge to Idiot Proof. Others to consider are Commentator and Smokey Stover.
BCMile: Excellent Art is my main selection but will also consider others based on odds including My Typhoon, No Biz, and Jeremy.
BCDistaff: Too bad Panty Raid is not entered. Will have to settle for a few, primarily the older gals, in this tough affair: Hystericalady, Unbridled Belle, and Balance.
BCTurf: The easiest race of the day with only two real contenders: Dylan Thomas and Red Rocks. Better Talk Now bearly makes the short list of possibles.
BCClassic: One of the better Classic fields in a long while. Street Sense is my favorite, hands down, but if I were looking elsewhere, I'd give Lawyer Run plenty of consideration. |
