Really, do we have any idea how this race is going to go? Is there any real path leading to this race? Was there a need for this race?
Anyway, I am going to take a flyer on two huge bombs in this race.
Cannonball 50-1: I know it was a miaden race and I know it was restricted, but isn't 1:08:3 fast for 6 furlongs under any conditions? Worth playing for a piece at a huge price.
Texas Fever 30-1: For some reason, the winner of the KyCupJuv seems to be ignored at BC time. This horse has two nice wins in a row and, again, is worth a look at 30-1.
And if the 2-11 exacta comes in? You'll hear the screams in NJ all the way from Palatine, IL!
I can't wait for this race. It has the smell of dynamite already, and toss in possible soft turf.
Here in the midwest, we have had torrential rain for 48 hours. It it hits at Monmouth anything like it did here, there will be track surface issues at least in the days b4 Saturday.
CANNONBALL caught my eye also, along with many others.
Disappointingly, my bomb choice is not in the field. Pletcher had a nominated runner who I caught breaking his maiden in his only turf start. When I watched the race, I noted that this 2yo colt may well be the next turf champion. His name starts with a C, and he ran behind a couple of nice 2yo sprinting on dirt or poly prior to his turf debut. If you have a chance to look at his grass race, please do so and tell me your opinion.
COWBOY CAL is his name, and he raced in the 2nd at Belmont on 9/26. Just pilled it up from BH.
Though no KY Cup Juvy winners have hit the board since Vindication's win in '02, the all-time record of the KYCJuvy winner in the BC Juvy is at worst 14-2-3-2, but I think it's more like 12-2-3-2 as I believe two of the winners did not race in the BC Juvy. It's been a key race. Here are the KYCJuvy winners who've hit the board in the BC Juvy:
1994-Tejano Run (3rd)
1995-Editor's Note (3rd)
1996-Boston Harbor (1st)
1998-Aly's Alley (2nd)
2000-Point Given (2nd)
2001-Repent (2nd)
2002-Vindication (1st)
I guess on Saturday we'll see how well they do in the BC Juvy Turf!
