Haven't even looked at the entries yet, so don't know if this is relevant.
Some of the "win & you're in" races were less than G1 or handicaps.

They were races to 'GAUGE' the conditioning of those that have the Potential of having themselves entered OR a 'stable-mate'who has a similar 'training' program...lol...
