“JOHN DEERE BREEDERS’ CUP TURF”
1 ½ MILES ON TURF FOR 3 YR OLDS & UP ($3 MILLION)
1ST - DYLAN THOMAS 3-2 JOCKEY – JOHN MURTAGH
This 6 time Group 1 winner ships from France just 20 days after winning the Arc de Triomphe. He lugged in during the stretch run that day and following an incredible 40 minute steward’s inquiry, his number was left up! No prior winner of the “Arc” has been able to win the BC Turf and several have tried. With the expected “soft” turf, his best could prove to be good enough.
2ND - BETTER TALK NOW 9-2 JOCKEY – RAMON DOMINGUEZ
A 5 time winner on a course labeled “soft” or “yielding”, this gelding is running in his 4th consecutive BC Turf. He won over a yielding turf course in 2004 at Lone Star Park at big odds for 1 of his 5 Grade 1 wins. There is not much speed signed on in this relatively short field and that may compromise his strong closing style. Would love to see him win but I sense that he runs out of track before getting to my top one!
3RD – ENGLISH CHANNEL 3-1 JOCKEY – JOHN VELAZQUEZ
2-2 over this turf course, this 5 time Grade 1 winner is nonetheless 0-2 in the BC Turf over the last 2 years, his best finish being a 3rd place finish in 2006. On his very best he could prove tough as the veritable “horse for the course”!
“SAVER” - RED ROCKS 5-1 JOCKEY - FRANKIE DETTORI
This colt by GALILEO has but one Grade 1 victory but it came in this event last year. He could better this rating if the top ones falter but more than likely he is in line for a minor check.
