“BREEDERS’ CUP CLASSIC – POWERED BY DODGE”
1 ¼ MILES ON DIRT FOR 3 YR OLDS & UP ($5 MILLION)
1ST – STREET SENSE 7-2 JOCKEY – CALVIN BOREL
Back on May 5th this colt snapped a 23 year drought by being the first BC Juvenile champion to wear the roses following the Kentucky Derby. The wide draw of HARD SPUN coupled with the rail draw of LAWYER RON is significant as to the pace we may expect on Saturday in my estimation. While HARD SPUN will have the length of the stretch to get to the rail, I believe that John Velazquez will work hard on the rail horse to maintain his position and thus create a quicker half mile split than either camp wanted. STREET SENSE should be able to save all of the ground and once Borel asks for his best, I expect he will respond!
2ND - ANY GIVEN SATURDAY 6-1 JOCKEY – GARRETT GOMEZ
Drawn well in the 3 hole, this colt should also get a perfect trip stalking the pacesetters and he can be right there when they hit the wire.
3RD - CURLIN 4-1 JOCKEY – ROBBY ALBARADO
The winner of the Preakness and Jockey Club Gold Cup, this colt by SMART STRIKE needs no introduction as he faces the Derby champ for the first time since foiling his triple crown plans in Baltimore! Another with a legitimate shot in a tough heat!
“SAVER” - HARD SPUN 8-1 JOCKEY – MARIO PINO
The King’s Bishop hero is the main speed once again and if able to clear LAWYER RON before the first turn, he could better this rating!
