I was there for Curlin's work today......spent a vacation day from work just to see it.
It was obviously my first time seeing this horse in the flesh, and I can second everything I've ever heard or read about how imposing he is. He's a big, strong sucker that exudes power without being difficult to handle. In otherwords, he's a professional.
I figured that his work today would be at 5 furlongs.....Asmussen seems to be married to that distance for this horse, and while I honestly thought he would work faster than the usual 1:02, I figured he would only have the screws tightened to a minute or 1:01, with a gallop-out in 1:14 or so. Wrong!
He recorded a quick 23 first quarter, slowed it down just a bit for a half in 47, and finished up evenly in 12 for the final 8th for a clocking in 59 and change......and he held that 12 for a gallop-out in 1:12.
He obviously hated the Pro-Ride! LOL!
The way he looked and moved though.....if Trevor hadn't been broadcasting the splits, you would never have guessed them. He just went easy. This is a nice horse folks!
