Watching since they started pulling for the Turf Sprint.
I thought Goldikova (8/5 ML) would be the shortest price, maybe outside chance to be Zensational (7/5 ML) or Lookin' At Lucky (7/5 ML) but shocked John White made Mastercraftsman at 6/5 the shortest morning line choice in what I thought was a very competitive Dirt Mile. Low prices abound in the Turf as well thus far with Conduit the 7/5 ML favorite.
John White said 5/2 is where he would likely have her and no problem with it. I think this is the first time she has been higher than 3/5 since the Apple Blossom in which she was 8/5 or something.
Watching TVG's The Works show tonight and a very good point made on Zenyatta was they expected the odds to go even lower by the time the Classic approaches with the influx of $2 bettors and the West Coast sentiment for the mare. Also, not sure if it true or not, but Rip Van Winkle said to be battling quarter cracks. He has for much of the year apparently but it was interesting that Ballydoyle held out on making a decision on Mastercraftsman and which race he would run in until the very last minute, hmmmmm......
I didn't make the wedding so not going to the funeral. I let the Euros beat me last year at nice odds so don't think I'll take short odds on a horse this year that may or may not be having foot problems.
Started looking at that one a bit last night. Very tough race, no one really stood out & I felt like I could make a case for 7 of the 10 to be good enough. I'll be looking some more this afternoon and post a full rundown sometime today or tonight.
I was kind of disappointed 3 horses I thought would be naturals for the Dirt Mile, Quality Road, Regal Ransom, and Girolamo, all went in the Classic. They help to ensure a solid pace there, but I think all three in the Dirt Mile might have been the makings of one heck of a race!
