| sami....as to your number 2 point....the sohei of japan were indeed very militant and not averse to killing. they were in essence in a struggle against the shogunate to gain power over the royal family.
i have explained in other posts about these warrior priests keeping their traditions secret because of the ban on teaching and practicing of these arts. it is not entirely implausible to believe that there exists martial ryu's in japan that are not contained in the daijiten.....namely these secret arts.
an offender would not simply be killed for breaking these rules implemented by the shogun, but his entire family would be erased. this was how they dealt with insubordination in japan. it was enough risk to practice and use these arts, but to make them entirely known for the sake of preservation was probably the furthest thing from their mind. |
