I'd say that you about summed it up Dave H; at least from a realistic standpoint. To 'cover out' after every technique, is merely putting the 'period' at the end of the sentence (technique). In the street confrontations I've had (all mass attacks), the attackers were either projected/ejected or wound up in a crumpled heap; except for one individual who got the 'idea' after sucking-air acutely. After all, Mr.Ed did have a flair for the dramatic; so 'covering out' after each demo'd technique added a little extra flair. Nothing wrong with that.
