Shut down all athletic programs, extra activities etc. Save on coaching supplements (athletic and academic), cut out travel to games for teams and band etc. Band competitions etc. Shorten the school week to 4 days etc. Already have laid off workers. If people don't want to support their schools then shut them down and let parents do their own babysiting. IF they run out of money how can the schools continue to keep the doors open? |

Citizens have the right to have free babysitters. |
|
FYI (no login) | According to Alabama law, the school week cannot be shortened. No score for this post | October 6 2009, 6:55 PM |
So that won't be happening |

"if people don't want to support their schools...."
Most county parents have been supporting their schools for a long time. It's the County Commission and everyone else that don't want to support our schools. If you don't believe me, just wait until we have the opportunity to vote for a 1/2 cent sales tax.
All people on here want to do is berate our school system, teachers, administrators, etc. The last thing they want to do is help support them. Their idea of support is to cut programs that give county kids a well rounded education experience like in the city.
What a hoot! |

Whether or not you like Derik Price, he said it best when he stated (and I quote)...
"We taxpayers arent anti-education when we fuss about additional taxes for county schools. Were just anti-incompetence."
The only person for certain that will draw a check after Feb 2010 will be Jeff Harper. He has been guaranteed a job for the next three years at least.
Only other possibility will be Lepard drawing a check because of the incompetence of the Superintendent and incompetence of the 7 board members.

doesn't matter who the super is or who the board is. if there is no money or local support for our kids as the city gets then our kids suffer. and if the super tries to do something to help a situation you call him incompetent. the board had nothing to do with Lepard, they were notified after he had resigned. the only person to meet with him was the super. And i think he was attempting to do what was best for the school. It is just popular to jump on anyone and everybody.
our school children in the county deserve the same support as the city kids do. I thnk our board membrs are good honest people who tryto dothe right thing. Have you ever sat down and talked to one? I have. |

Go ahead Sheila K. You are going out. Harper will see to that...aren't he and and his wife helping to support the person running against you?
To answer your question, yes I have talked to more than one board member and I stand by my statement
INCOMPETENT!!!
Harper said no one on the board ever talked to him and his wife called them a rubber stamping board. I am beginning to side with them about the board of education. The board is supposed to be "for our schools" not reactionary "didn't get my way on the playground" retaliating against a person because you don't like something they said and use your power against them. THat is why there are fair dismissal laws in this state.
I followed that case and am following the Lepard case as well. |

Don't judge all board members by the actions of the superintendent or a board member or two who plays politics. I like my board member. |

They all vote together..........No one has the strength to be an individual..........They think showing unity in vote sends the right message..........It only shows their unwillingness to do what is right in favor of political unity.
They are either all incompetent as school leaders (not bad people) or being manipulated by a genius of a leader in Superintendent Allen. Unlike Schrushy who manipulated many people -- Hank is incapable of such a feat due to his lack of brain power (See the public Harper trial and his inability to even testify in complete thoughts). The other option is that Hank is being manipulated by the board which is possible but that leads us back to their incompetence as school leaders. Clean house or continue to have plenty to write about on this forum. |

Who cares abut Harper and his wife??? really????
Thats really getting to be old news and most are tired of it. Worse things have happened in this school system in the past that benefited no one. The more I read and hear the more I'm finding out Hanceville seems to be much better off. |

Forget the name, it could happen to anyone. No employee is safe with that kind of management. My opinion is a person screwed up but wasn't told what s/he done till after s/he was fired. I don't care who the person is so no names need to be mentioned. From what I have seen, the super and board need some administration/management classes to learn how to handle these type of situations. People in authority, like them, need to not let it go to their head. I am glad you like your board member. The ones I have talked to are lacking in their competence, I haven't talked to all of them, but enough to know we need to replace 3-4 of them.
I am following the Lepard case too, even though the board wants to claim ignorance of that fiasco...that is unless it goes in their favor then there are a few that will jump on the bandwagon of what a great thing was done. For their sake, I hope so. For Lepard sake, I hope they haven't destroyed his name for life.
Also, I am sure the easy thing is to say the elementary school is better since he left, the board/super/new principal need to make sure of that.
Just as the other side is going to say it is going downhill since he left.
Six of one half a dozen of the other...time will tell which is correct on that one. |

what we need (Login farmallman) | truth isNo score for this post | October 6 2009, 11:01 PM |
let jim boyd take over and give him a board that is half way decent and the school system would improve. nobody knows how to do anything except blunder in county office now. super and every board member needs to be replaced. if we are in the financial tight they are saying then quit talking and do something. park the busses - they are not required by law, turn out the lights at 3:05 every day -- gyms, ball fields, parking lots, layoff every aide and asst principle, park the all county vehicles at shop after 3pm - nobody drive them home, adhere to the state bid list and do not buy any item not on the list unless absolutely needed with local money, cease all building projects. |

Even old Jim with all his bullying couldn't make revenue when there isn't any. Get real. He and his tactics wouldn't last one month. Who would want to be a superintendent when you get blamed for everything and you have absolutely no control over revenues given to you? The schools are at the mercy of the State and Local leaders. I think we get a pretty good bang for the buck considering Cullman County is near the bottom in theState in local support. |

Disagree. He was terrible and helped make the system the political cesspool it is now imo. |
