Time setting : this fic would take place in season 3. The crew have found Maeve on an island, where she finally defeated Rumina and turned Dermott back into a man. She went back on board. They had been sailing for a month since these events took place, but they never really got the chance to celebrate it. The Nomad was finally heading toward a port.
Dermott walked to the tillar where Sinbad and Rongar were standing. Maeve and Bryn were sitting nearby, catching some sun between two magic-studying lessons.
- What are the plans once we get on land ? asked Dermott to the captain.
- It will mostly be buying food and other supplies for weeks to come. We could even allow ourselves a few days off, answered Sinbad.
-Might I suggest something ? What about we get ourselves the biggest hangover weve ever had.
Rongar and Sinbad looked at each other as they heard the two women giggle.
-Thats my brother, Maeve said laughing.
-Hey, Ive been a bird for the last 10 years of my life. How many times have I seen you in taverns, drinking ale and other alcohol while I had to stick to water ? he told her. Besides , we have a lot to celebrate. You coming back, your victory over Rumina, me being myself again.
Doubar walked to them, tapped Dermott in the back.
-Im always up for some good ale and nice entertaining.
-Yes, sometimes it can be quite funny when youve had too much to drink.
-Im only celebrating life, Doubar said smiling. Right, girls ?
Both sorceresses laughed as they agreed.
-I guess we could certainly find a tavern in the next village, Sinbad told Dermott.
-I would love to join, but I never really tolerated alcohol well, Bryn said. However, I hope you guys enjoy your evening.
- What about you ? Dermott asked to a hesitant Maeve. Cmon sister. Lets show these sailors how Celts drink.
-Im not sure I can still manage as I used to, Maeve protested.
-True that weve never seen you drunk actually, Sinbad teased her.
-Lucky for you.
Dermott answered the captain with an evil grin, as Maeve punched him in the stomach.
- Are you saying I should loosen up ? she asked with sarcasm, referring to a comment she had received from Talia long ago.
Sinbad and Doubar chuckled.
-Good. So youre in to get totally shitfaceted ? Dermott insisted.
Maeve sighed as the men laughed.
- What can I refuse my brother ? I owe him so much.
The crew had spent the day getting supplies on board. Bryn then stayed on board with other crewmembers as Sinbad, Doubar, Rongar, Firouz, Maeve and Dermott headed back to the village in search of a place to eat and drink. They found a tavern at the end of the village. When they finished their meal, they saw Dermott and Rongar walk back to the table with several small glasses of some liquor. Puzzled, Sinbad and Doubar looked at their trays.
- Thats the booze we paid for ?asked Doubar skeptically as Maeve and Dermott laughed.
-This is actually ten times stronger that a regular glass of ale, said Firouz.
-Its only to start us up. Back home, we used to play a game, explained Dermott as he disposed seven glasses in front of each one. We called it the Seven realms, as there are seven in our land. Whoever succeeds to drink up to the seventh glass wins. Now, why not try and see who can really master the Seven seas ? he asked mischieviously.
-I never refuse a challenge, Doubar said.
Dermott raised one glass, as everybody followed.
-To the Sea of Fars !
They cheered and drank the first glass.
-Woah, thats some strong alcohol, Sinbad grimaced.
-Youre quitting already ? Dermott teased.
-No way, I was only stating a fact. Sinbad said, as Firouz laughed.
-Your turn, sis.
- To the Sea of Salahit ! she cheered, and everybody drank their second glass.
-Feeling anything yet ? Doubar asked, worried about how his money got spent.
-When it hits, it hits hard, Maeve warned him.
After the third glass, the crew all started being tipsy. Firouz was off the game after the fourth glass, while Rongar and Maeve quit at the fifth. Dermott and Sinbad admitted defeat at their sixth glass while Doubar was getting drunk with his seventh.
-Looks like weve got a winner ! exclaimed Dermott, slightly drunk himself.
He and Rongar then decided to compete in an improvised knife-throwing contest. The tavern holder asked them to go outside and Sinbad and Firouz followed, leaving Maeve and Doubar at the table. When they walked back in about an hour later, Doubar was drinking ale with a wench who was sitting besides him, but Maeve was nowhere to be found.
-Where has she gone ? Sinbad asked his brother, slightly worried she had gotten sick.
-She met some fellow who offered her hmmm I dont remember, I guess it was ale of some sort. Well she must be with him somewhere.
-You let her leave with a stranger ? Sinbad scolded.
-Shes a grown-up. Besides, the guy seemed harmless. He was with a young lady too. Shes just having fun, little brother.
-Well, lets try to find her so we can go back on the ship.
-Already ? protested Dermott
-All good things must come to an end. Its passed midnight already. Come on.
As they walked outside, they heard what sounded like an explosion coming from behind the tavern. They ran to the field behind the house, but it was so dark they couldnt see anything. Then they saw a fire ball being thrown in the sky. As it exploded like a firework, they heard people giggling. The light provided by the firework showed what looked like two couples lying on their back, facing the sky. Another fire ball was thrown. Other gigglings.
-This one looked like a flower !!! exclaimed a female voice they didnt know.
The crew walked to them and they soon realized Maeve was lying between the man Doubar saw her leaving with, and his girlfriend. There was another man beside her whom they understood was the ladys brother. They were all giggling like kids.
-Maeve! Sinbad called her.
She got up, a huge smile on her face.
She happily exclaimed as she scampered to him. She threw herself in his arm, then she sighed loudly.
-Oh, I LOOOOOOVE how you smell. It must be your aftershave or something ! she exclaimed, running her nose on his neck.
Sinbad was startled, as were all the crewmen.
Maeve then turned to Rongar.
-Oh my, your skin is sooooooooooooo shiny under the moonlight.
-Firouz ? asked Doubar, worried.
-She looks wasted, Dermott said, laughing at his sisters weird behavior.
-Her pupils are dilated, she obviously ate or drank something that got her high, not to forget she had been drinking a lot of alcohol too, Firouz explained. Sometimes it can bring someone to hallucinate or simply have their senses acuity greatly improved.
-Yes, thats exactly what happened Firouz!
Maeve stressed the exactly almost with admiration. You are so smart ! Now come on she said, grabbing Sinbads arm :
-Sit with us. Garreth can give you some magic stuff too.
He followed her as they joined the three strangers lying on the grass. The guys were now smoking, but it didnt smell like tobacco. The scent was something he didnt know, it was sweet, almost floral.
-Hey ! the guy presumed to be Garreth said with a lazy voice. Want some mushies too ?
-Mushrooms ? Is that what you have been feeding her ? Sinbad asked him angrily.
Garreth and the other girl laughed softly. Maeve turned to him, pouting like a child.
-So, you guys can have fun whenever you want, but if I want to, once every few years, its wrong ? she asked.
Sinbad looked at Firouz, who nodded. He turned back to answer to Maeve, but instead of seeing a sad-looking Maeve standing before him just like seconds ago, he saw she was almost crawling on the grass with the other girl, as they examined some field flower.
-What is this ?!! suddenly exclaimed the girl.
-Its the most beautiful thing I ever ever seen ! Look ! The petals look like butterflies.
Sinbad put his fingers at the bridge of his nose and sighed still, he was smiling. The crewmembers laughed as they watched Maeve act as if she was a 5 year-old discovering natures little wonders.
-I guess its not a bad thing to let her enjoy her moment, then. How long should this last ? Sinbad asked Firouz.
-A few hours, maybe. Im not worried about this, she will do fine after.
-Doubar, Rongar, why dont you start us a fire ? Sinbad suggested.
-You want us to stay, now ? asked Doubar.
- We better keep an eye on her. Anyhow, shes clearly not in shape to walk back to the ship right now.
-I thought Firouz said we shouldnt worry about her, said Doubar. Do you?
-Its not her I worry most about. Its them. Sinbad answered.
Looking at the road behind them where drunk men, walking out of the tavern, and yelling smutty comments at the girls.
-Aye, little brother. Better make sure they dont take advantage over them girls. This Garreth and his friend look so wasted they couldnt even help themselves if they were assaulted.
The crew improvised a fire nearby. For an hour they watched the two girls explore and comment the fields every rock or flower.
-I think we were lost ! explained Maeve as they sat by the fire, about an hour later.
The crew laughed as the girls had always actually been at about 5 meters away. The crew decided to engage in another dagger-throwing contest in the field, leaving Sinbad sitting on a log by the fire, so he could watch over the girls.
The girl walked toward her boyfriend, who was talking some about serious philosophical issues with her brother. They got up and left after wishing goodnight to Maeve.
The sorceress sat close to the firepit and started playing with the fires shape. Worried she wasnt fully controlling her magical abilities while she wasnt sober, Sinbad asked her to come sit beside him instead. She stood up, smiled at him as she walked to him. But instead of sitting by him, she litteraly straddled him. Unsure of what was happening, the young captain froze.
-What are you doing ? he asked her, fighting to keep his eyes up her cleavage, which was at his eye level.
-I sit with you, just like you asked me ! she giggled.
As she started talking enthusiastically about everything and anything, she lost her balance and Sinbad grabbed her by the waist so she wouldnt fall over and hurt herself.
