| In a fine dragon snit Isadora writes on the message board in large (for her anyway) letters.
To whom it may concern: (Which probably isn't anyone around here.)
It's been nearly a month since the star sent anyone a letter. I'm sure he's probably dead. Frizzled out in a sea storm drowned or captured by the worse sort of scoundrels. I dug up the last letter he sent anyone. It was dated February 13th. An unlucky day. Here's the transcript. He's the warmest place to nap I ever had. My hatchlings will never meet him.
Dear Mommy Seraphine,
Did you ever know you were being naughty and just couldn't help it anyway? I snuck down into the kitchen and let Clucksalot out of her cage. I guess I was a little hotter than normal for I went to pat her on the head and she squawked something fierce and bolted. Her feathers were smouldering. I chased her round the ship a good hour before I got her back in her cage. A few things might have gotten broken. It wasn't intentional. I try to be good. Honest, I try. The first mate was in a righteous rage. He wants me to pay for the things I've broken and pay the difference between the ticket I bought and a regular ticket for they won't let me sleep in the wheelhouse anymore. He said I'm too much of a disturbance. Actually, he wasn't quite that polite about it. They hadn't any cabins left and no one wanted to share. The first mate said he wouldn't force anyone to sleep with an out of control night light brat and that I'd have to make do where ever I was put. Anyhow, he put me in the brig. He didn't lock the door but I'm only to leave if I have to go to the bathroom and I'm to come straight back or the first mate says he will lock the door and he'll toss me to the port authority when we get to shore. He even said he'd roast up my stupid chicken and serve her to me and make me eat it. I don't think he'd really do it but I'd just assume not take the chance.
I'm not as naughty as all that, honest I'm not! It's the coffee. I haven't slept at all the last few days, I'm all jittery and my tummy doesn't feel good. I'm sure it's the coffee. One of the problems is when I'm jittery my corona starts flaring. Ships are all wood. I'm scared that if I do sleep now, I'll loose control over my temperature and set the ship on fire. I'm very tired and it seems I jump or flare every time the ship creaks. I wouldn't drink it anymore even if everyone hadn't been scolded for offering it to me in the first place but it's hard to stay awake and I know the only way to stop my corona flaring once it's started up is a good long sleep and sleep won't be safe until I'm ashore again. It's only a few days more. By the time you get this letter I'll probably be ashore again. I just went to visit Clucksalot to explain to her about the rats. They're out to get me. They're plotting with monster under the cargo netting.
I'm very sorry, I'll try to be good, Lots of love,
Bright.
PS. I've been writing Granny too but I don't think I'll tell her this. It was bad enough writing you. I hope you don't have tea parties and talk about how naughty I am and oh what ever shall you do with me and such.
I'm going to bite the tops off of all your flowers in the spring!
Isadora.

~Kat crept to the message board looking around at all the letters, reading over the ones that weren't addressed to anybody in specific. She read over the letter from Isadora and Bright and frowned. It really did sound like Bright was in trouble. Kat didn't think the captain was very nice to Bright and clucksalot. And so Kat made a decision and went back to her tree house for a while. She returned to the message board dressed in her travling tunic. (one of TAS's old tunics that hung well below her knees) Her backpack slung over her shoulders and her dagger belted on right next to her bulging pouch. Kat was going to look for Bright. He needed her. That's what friends did afterall. The big peoples always went chasing after one another so Kat decided that she should chase after Bright to bring him back safe. And to tell him about Isadora's babies. Kat stuck a note to the board and whisted for her messenger birds, Piper and Swift. The two rainbow colored birds flew to her and she set Piper's perch down near the message board. Piper and swift could always find eachother and they could always find her. So if people needed to tell her important stuff Piper would be able to get her and she could write back with Swift. She smiled and headed out of the sanctuary, trodding along the path in her too long tunic out to look for her bestest friend~
The note fluttered on the message board as she left. Kat had once seen a sign that said the person had gone out looking for fish and thought it very clever so she'd made her own sign it read:
Gone Brighting.

Isadora eventually returns and reads the message left by Kat, and immediatly flits off to go and scold Lady Seraphine for getting Kat into trouble by letting Bright go off adventuring.
After that she really does have to go home and see to her brood. When they are all in the nest and sleeping she comes and scolds Lady Jaeden.
Do you know what kind of trouble your daughter is getting her self into?

Isadora, In a huff mumbling to herself. Scold me? For being a busy body stirring up trouble because I'm mad at Bright. Hmrph. I'm not mad, I'm never mad.
(Isadora had apparently run into one of Lady Seraphine's servants and been told not to upset the Lady of the house with any more of this silliness and that the Lady Seraphine would know if any harm threatened her son. Isadora looks up at one of the guards in the Sanctuary, he's got that same looks on his face that Lady Seraphine's servant had.)
Just to prove she isn't a busy body. Isadora tries something she hasn't tried yet, she tries Mind Speak. The little star is horrid at it but he can manage sometimes.
MS Bright?
Isadora gets a little of the strange echoy response of a star chorus, a form a mind speak the little star forgot how to do properly eons ago and if he's managing now, it can mean only one thing. He's asleep.
Bright's response:
Heavens dance moves me.
My light is my gift,
My promise of peace.
Isadora:
MS BRIGHT! WAKE UP!
Bright's response:
Time shall accomplish all your passions.
Never loose heart, Never loose faith.
Isadora:
MS BRIGHT! WAKE UP!!!
Bright's response:
?!
Isadora:
Stupid little star. Wakes up and is so startled to be awake, he breaks the contact. I doubt he can hear me now but still if I keep it simple.
MS BRIGHT COME HOME!
Bright's response:
Broken feeble MS: bright ... rock ...eat
Isadora can get nothing further out of the star but puzzled she decides maybe bothering a big dragon like the Lady Jaeden was dangerous. He seems alright.

Bright couldn't have hidden himself more effectively if he was trying.
You might be able to find Clucks-a-lot the stupid blue chicken. Let me know where you are looking and I'll let you know what you find. |

| Swift Mail from a little Kat | March 6 2002, 11:46 AM |
~A brightly rainbow plumed bird flies in and perches on the message board. Nipping playfully at the other bird who sits there waiting. Swift drops the letter from Kat onto the board and then nudges Piper sending the other bird out the window to find Kat~
The Letter reads, in messy sort of scrawl as if written while on horseback (becasue it was)
Momma!
it's Kat. Guess what! I found the circus Bright gave me tickets to. I figured that mebbie they'd know where he went after the circus. Maybe they will even know what ship he took and where the ship was going. All I know is that he's got Clucksalot with him and that there's lots of coffee on the ship.
Black Lightening and Swift are enjoying the adventure with me and I haven't fallen off Black Lightening at all this time. We were in the enchanted forest and I almost fell off when we had to go really really fast to get away from an ogre. Black Lightening says I should say that I didn't really see an ogre, but that I know I heard on in the bushes and it had nothing to do with the fact that it was getting dark and I was a little scared. There was an ogre, really.
I did see some baby fire newts though. Black Lightening didn't like them much becasue they kept letting little spurts of fire off everytime they moved. I couldn't stay with the fire newts for very long but one of them has been following me all through the forest. I called him Tagalong and hoped he would come Brighting with us but he stayed in the enchanted forest.
I'm going to go into the circus now and talk to the people to see if they know where Bright went. And I might go visit the elephant too. And maybe play with the poodles if I have time. There is a little poster with a show cancelled sign on part of it. It's a advertisement for Incedio Firechild and the drawing looks kinda like bright wearing a flowerpot. But the show is cancelled so I can't go see. I will write to you again soon!

| He went that-a-way | March 11 2002, 2:51 PM |
Nancy: Well let me see little sweetie, I believe the name of the ship was Ursula Mare, I think that means sea bear. The ship was headed to the main port of Athens Greece. I believe the little fellow was actually headed for Rome how ever. Come why don't we go check with the port authority. They'll know Ursula Mare's full course chart and when they're due in port.
Oh have you met our fishman Claude?
Claude: I'd come with you down to port but my gills would dry out. Oh now, don't make such a terrible face, I've never eaten a little girl in my life. I've a treat for you. You say you're looking for a star? Here's a star fish for you. Actually this is a star fish skeleton. If you can be brave about a star fish skeleton surely a silly ol' fish man's nothing to worry about.
Nancy: I told the ring master that poster with Claude tearing people limb from limb was a bad idea but the ring master wanted to appeal to the thrill seekers.
Nancy and Kat find out the Ursula Mare is due in port again in a few days. | |
