Freefalling [part #4]

Wisdom Lucraine

Wisdom squeezed his hand lightly as she stepped forward, the air around them crackling with static as they stepped out onto the sandy ground. All about them lay the wastelands of sand and in the distance loomed three pyramids. And one would think themselves on Earth in the Sol system except for the double crescent moons partially hidden in the view ahead of them in the purple sky. And she turned to him, smiling as two beings approached them, the taller of the two spindly limbed bipeds chirping in greeting, the only thing understandable was the designation to her as "Star Strider" and Wisdom replied in the same language. She then turned to him.

"We have permission to stay as long as we wish to observe the excavation of the ruins about a half mile from here. And, yes, archeology is something I find comfort in, learning of past civilizations is interesting to me ..."

She did not say that she found it interesting in only a visual capacity, but it was also in the wisdom and the learning of the various cultures that could create language both written and pictorial, had advanced mathematics and medicine, massive buildings with little or no explanation as to how they were constructed. Earth had its appeal to her once until she had seen all that she needed to and had documented it accordingly in the archives of the Sanctuary.

Nor did she say that she found it comforting since she had found something that she could relate to even though it was a dead civilization. Most didn't understand her thirst for knowledge, but then, again, not many came close enough to her to find out anything about the concept that had become a living, breathing woman.

"Do you think you can walk the distance, or shall we take the easy way? Both have learning advantages."

And with that question, her hand gestured towards three large hairless quadropeds that looked similar to camels except that they had three humps that rose from their backs, one that seemed about a foot high, the second about three feet high and the last one close to five feet high. A saddle-like object was located in the hollow of the first two humps and what looked to be a mismash of equipment and stuff, all unfamiliar, lashed into the second hollow.

And she waited for his reply.

Deja vu...or the Law of Averages

December 12 2004, 7:01 PM

Fallen slowly turned in place, taking in his new surroundings. He eyed the spindly bipeds curiously and smiled crypticly as she spoke to them.

After Wisdom asked whether they should walk or take the 'easy way', he turned towards her again.

"Let us walk. It shall not be tired by such activity and can move faster than those beasts can should the need arise in any case."

He took his place beside her, awaiting her to lead the way.

"This place looks familiar, for some reason."

Sign, sign, everywhere a sign....

December 14 2004, 6:26 AM

Wisdom looked at Fallen, chuckling softly. She knew that the qunsises were faster than Earth's cheetahs and could go at that pace for well over an hour before starting to tire. And yes, she could move faster than the beasts if the need arose, but then, she wasn't one to back down most times weighing the situation and having the wisdom to follow the Knights' tenent.

"Alright, Fallen, it might be a little easier on you at that."

As they began to walk down the "beaten" path, she glanced to him at his remark of the familiarity of the place and she smiled, nodding.

"Well, if you've ever been to Earth's ancient Egypt, or through Mexico where the Aztecs lived or in Peru with the Incas....you'd see similar structures. But then of course, most major inhabited planets have similar ruins that housed people that were very intelligent and understood and used advanced mathematics, medicine and linguistics."

The air about them began to cool as they came towards what looked to be an oasis of sorts, he would be able to smell water and there was a small tent set up about three hundred yards from them with various beings running in and around the area.

Reading the fine print...

December 14 2004, 10:02 PM

He impassively observed the natives going about their business at the oasis as the two of them approached.

"Earth? Someone named a world after one of the four classical elements? How odd. None of those names are familiar to me, however."

He glanced at her, watching as a desert breeze stirred her hair.

"But I am sure that there are many similar such structures, given the vastness of all Creation. But tell me, what uniquely distinguishes this now dead culture from any other? Is there anything special these people, or you, hope to find?"

~Reading between the lines~

December 16 2004, 8:27 AM

"Well, it was named Terra, actually, but the name its referred to the most is Earth."

She paused, looking towards their right at the roped-off area where there was the most activity. From where they stood, they could see the entrance to what looked to be a small pyramid cluster, apparently, even the smaller structures were built along those lines. Numerous bipeds carried flat trays of broken pottery and other unrecognizable things into a wooden structure that had been erected beyond the cluster.

"I guess its because the people here hold on to their past as much as they can, for they say it has shaped them to what they are now. The planet here went through a tremendous upheaval in a global war that lasted two hundred and seventy-three years. They have recovered for the most part ... these are the children's children of the survivors. They fear that history may repeat itself. And they wish for the knowledge of what happened then so it may not be repeated. I hope that they can learn from those past mistakes and grow."

Wisdom smiled, pushing back the few strands of hair that had drifted across her face from the breeze.

"And my presence, hopefully, will provide them with the wisdom of what to do with that knowledge once they find it."

She looked up at him, her head tilting a bit, regarding him a few moments.

"Besides, it keeps -me- out of trouble ..."

And don't forget the addendums

December 17 2004, 8:27 PM

Fallen let out a deep, loud chuckle. His eyes twinkled with amusement as he looked sidelong at Wisdom.

"I could almost believe that the reason you brought me here was to hint that I myself should dig up my past so that I would not repeat past mistakes."

He stoped walking and turned directly to her.

"If I were inclined to believe that, I would have to think you know who I once was. Even though I do not know."

He resumes walking down the path.

"If I were so inclined...." he trailed off with a smile and a small shake of his head.

"Besides, I cannot imagine someone as fair as you ever being in ANY sort of trouble."

He said this in such a way as to imply that he could easily imagine the trouble she could get herself into.

~And to just clarify~

December 17 2004, 9:04 PM

She watched him as he spoke about the reason why she brought him here, thinking that probably wouldn't have been a bad idea ... had she actually known who he was once. But it was an idea she filed away for future use if needed.

And she just burst out laughing when he said he couldn't imagine someone as fair as her being in ANY sort of trouble, catching his amusement.

"Well, Fallen, you don't know me that well, or you wouldn't make such a statement."

She stopped, turning to him.

"So, Fallen, to what -are- you so inclined?"

The bright star-filled eyes regarded him, awaiting his answer ... if he had one.

Ask a serious question...

December 18 2004, 11:40 PM

Fallen tilted his head slightly to the left as he considered her question.

"I am inclined to believe you are a fascinating woman. I am inclined to get to know you well enough to know what kind of trouble you DO manage to get yourself into."

He held up his hands and looked at them. One withered, the other scarred.

"I am inclined to make myself whole, one way or another. And to find out as much about myself as I can, as the opportunities present themselves."

He dropped his hands back to his side.

"What are you yourself inclined towards? Or should I ask?" he asked with a smile.

There may have been a brief glow in his eyes as he asked. Or perhaps it was the glare of the desert sun....

There are restrictions and exclusions that may apply...

December 19 2004, 11:15 AM

The angel of Wisdom blinked, taken unaware by his remark. She knew he would want to know all he could about himself and to repair his body. And she had to admit that she found herself wanting to help him return to what he once was or to something close if that was the only way.

And she had been told by others that she was a "fascinating woman". But for him to say he wanted to get to know her better to find out what sort of trouble she -could- get into?

Well, she replied to that the only way she could.

The soft blush rose over her cheeks.
