~Kat frowned at her spell book. This was a particularly hard spell to remember. It was even in Latin and while Kat enjoyed speaking in the foreign tounge it was hard to figure out how to sound out words. And every little magician in training knew what happened when you don't pronounce your words right....~

~the fire before her whirled and danced forming the shape of fire angles. It wasn't the spell in the book but she liked to watch the fire dancers. Kat stopped and picked up her apple that she'd packed for lunch at school. She bit down into the apple. A sharp pain shot through her mouth as she bit into the apple. The apple hit the ground with a thunk.~

now whatever caused that?

~Kat picked up her spell mirror and opened her mouth wide. She tried to look at the tooth that hurt but looking into one's own mouth with a mirror is very difficult. Instead Kat decided to try asking her older brother Tolliver why her tooth hurt.~

Tolli, my tooth hurts. I bit into the apple and it hurt.

~kat frowned and Tolliver looked into her mouth carefully.~

"Why Kidkat I think you have a cavity. I will talk to the court dentist and have him take a look."

~Kat did not like the idea of a stranger looking into her mouth. And she did not think that the cavity was very nice at all. She wondered what a cavity was as she went back to her room to play for a bit. She loved her visits to her brother's manor but she didn't like it so much now that she knew Cavities lived in Shadow Glen. Kat picked up her teddy bear as she entered her room~

Mr. B? Do you know what a cavity looks like?

~Mr. B whispered that maybe Kat should draw what she thought a cavity looked like and then she could think of ways to get rid of it. Kat liked that idea very much, so she sat down at her desk with her crayons and a clean scroll. She began to draw. A Cavity, she imagined would have to be thin to fit between her teeth. So she drew a thin little body. Since it was wet in her mouth she supposed that Cavities must wear their bathing suits all the time so she drew a little bathing suit on the body. Cavities must have skinny little arms that end in hands with sharp claws. And skinny legs with feet that end in talons. And the must have skinny, pointed heads with small noses and eyes like a cat to see in the dark when she closed her mouth as well as eyes like a human to see in the light when she opened her mouth. And no hair otherwise it would tickle and she would know it was there.~

What do you thik Mr B? How would we catch a thing like that?

~Kat looked at her drawing and imagined it in a big cage with bars small enough that it couldn't slip through them. But the idea of putting a cage into her mouth didn't sound at all like fun, and she didn't know how to get the Cavity into the cage~

hmmmm.....

~Mr B suggested catching it with glue, getting it all tangled up in the sticky mess and then pulling it out with the glue. Kat wrinkled her nose and picked up her glue stick. She sniffed hesitantly at it and gently licked the top of it.~

blech!!

~Kat didn't think that was a good idea at all. Next she tried to scrub it out with her toothbrush but she decided that not only did Cavities have sharp claws they also must have glue of their own. No matter how hard she scrubbed it only hurt more and the Cavity didn't even move to a different tooth.~

I don't like Cavities much Mr. B.

"Good thing too because the court dentist is going to get rid of that cavity from your mouth right now."

~Tolliver picked up his baby sister and carried her down to the dentist. He put a quick sleep spell on her and let the dentist go to work. Kat woke up a while later in her own bed with Mr B hugged close to her chest. She probed the tooth where the cavity had been. She didn't feel anything. No sharp claws. No talons. She felt all around her teeth to make sure that the cavity hadn't moved to some other place, and sure enough it was gone. Kat thanked Tolli and the dentist and then went home to her momma Jaeden.~

"Did you have a good time at your brother's Kat?"

~Jaeden asked as Kat appeared. Kat thought for a moment and then nodded.~

yes momma, and I learned why angels invented Dentists.

~Jaeden raised a curious eyebrow and waited paitently for her daughter to explain.~

Angels invented Dentists becaus they needed somebody smart enough and quick enough to catch all the Cavities. AND they invented Dentists with special teeth so that they could give all the Cavities a good home when they take them from the mouths of other people.

~Kat smiled and nodded at her momma and went off to find Bright to tell him all about Dentists and to show him the picture of the Cavity that she drew.~

Wow I never hear of cavities before I've heard of Caveat. That's a really old language called latin that the church especially used to use. I don't remember if I ever told you I used to live in a monastery. As far as I know Caveat means.

Well, it means something like that anyway.

I wonder if cavity origionally meant something like LOOK OUT TEETH!

The ArchAngel could barely keep from laughing out loud at the explanation of why angels created dentists and had to agree that her daughter made perfectly good sense.

"Why, yes, Kat....that is exactly why angels created dentists....so when those Cavities appear looking for a home, they can be taken to a home of their own and not hurt little ones' teeth. Even adults have visits from Cavities, but not as often as children do."

Kat looked up at her a moment. "Do angels get visits by Cavities?"

She shook her head."No, not that I have been told, Kat....but one never knows. But for now....cut back on sweets and such and the Cavities should not come back. And if they do, Tollie or I can take you back to the dentist."

She laughed merrily after Kat ran off to find Bright and she shook her head amused as she walked out into the garden thinking that this was exactly why she had had so many children over the years.....they were such fun and one could learn alot from them, if one only listened.
