I've got BellSouth DSL. You don't have to have a local phone line to run it. You tell them you want DSL Direct. I'm saving about $40 a month. I've also got DirecTV and didn't think I could run it without a local phone line, but you can. We bought a cable (sorry, can't remember what it's called) and ran it from the router to the phone line. I haven't had any trouble with this either. |

So what is your cost for the dsl and direct tv together? |

I pay them separately. I have DSL Ultra, which was $37.95 with my phone service, but is now $42.95 with just DSL Direct (still saving on the local bill); and I have DirecTV with the HD package & 2 receivers. That runs about $75.00, but it's high because of the HD service. If it was up to me, I'd just go back to the basic DirecTV and no HD, but my hubby likes HD. |

So, you don't have a land line, but they are still using a phone jack (Bell South) to bring in your DSL, right? And from that you have a phone cord going to your router? I have Time Warner cable. It is fast and 44.00 a month for the 5 mbp speed. Its fast. I wouldn't use Time Warner for anything other than that because their tv, HD and digital service is still crappy. I have Dish. I have 5 tvs on it, 2 of them are HD, I have over 40 something HD channels now, a DVR and I pay the 5.99 a month extra because I don't have a land line to connect to it. I wonder if there is a way to do away with that charge other than connecting to a land line.....anyone know. Oh I pay 99.00 for Dish a month. Thats the HD charge, service, the fee for no phone line, charge for 5 boxes, the DVR charge, etc. |

We don't use the phone jack for DSL. You can get DSL Direct from BellSouth, which does not require a phone line. I've got the DSL Extreme which is 3 mbps. I've been pleased with it.
I messed up in my original post about the phone jack & the satellite receiver (sorry! Going from memory of what my hubby & son hooked up.) You can get an Ethernet cable to hook up your satellite receiver (works on newer receivers, not older ones) to a router. You then make changes via your menu on DirecTV to tell it to connect through a router, not a phone line. We've not had any problems with it. Hope this helps! |

I cancelled my land line because I was tired of getting ripped off by Bell South/ AT&T. I connect to the Internet through Time Warner cable (Road Runner) and its faster for less money. |

We use a fax just about every day. People need to see copies of something with a signature, it's easier to just fax it to them. |

You think that everyone jumps on whatever is current? A lot of people still use a fax and a lot of people still write checks. |

I cancelled mine and I'd do it again a million times. I love the fact that I don't get telemarketer calls and if I get a call, its from someone that I know. |
