I did a little shopping this weekend. Yesterday I went to the VitaminShoppe close to my house to get some AO shampoo, but they had such a small selection and the bottles looked old – and they didn’t have the ‘poos I wanted.

I did pick up some GPB conditioner though. Will have to order from them online for the other stuff I want I guess.
While there, I picked up some castor oil to finally try the Oil Cleansing Method I’ve read about for ages on LHC. I’ve been using coconut and jojoba oil, but wanted to try something with more viscosity. Castor oil certainly fits the bill there! I tried it last night and enjoyed the different texture. I’d already tossed my Cetaphil and have been using AO’s cleansing cream in addition to the other oils, but this will be a nice alternative. This morning I rinsed with water and then put on Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty. Let that dry and then rinsed with warm water again. While still damp, I put on some camellia oil and now my face feels very smooth and moisturized. Also sprayed my hair with some lavender water that I picked up yesterday (smells WAY better than the lavender water I’ve made, for some reason), and then added camellia oil to my length and put it up in a figure 8. The lavender water smells beautiful and I’ve been spraying my neck and using it like perfume. I’m glad I have 8 ounces of it!
I also picked up some toothpaste I’ve wanted to try - that doesn’t have fluoride or sodium lauryl sulfate in it (check your toothpaste! It’s even in “health food” toothpastes! The mouth/gums absorb that nasty stuff, so I’ve wanted to switch for awhile.) This is Weleda brand, made in Germany. I got the “Pink Toothpaste with Ratanhia”. In doing a search, I found that Ratanhia is used in dental care products and prepared from the root of Rhatany and is included for its astringent properties, to ease swelling and redness - and help strengthen gums. It tastes great, so I’m a new customer.

I also bought some mouthwash. I don’t like using the regular mainstream kind. It’s like pouring acid on my tongue it’s so strong. The times I have used it, I had to cut it with equal parts water. Uck... nasty stuff. I don’t like the ingredients in it either. So I bought some Spicy Cinnamon Flavor “herbal mouth and gum therapy daily oral rinse and demulcent.” Demulcent? That was a new word for me. Means “to sooth or soften”.

My mouth smelled like cloves afterwards. It’s made by The Natural Dentist. The ingredients are pretty simple: spring water, aloe vera, echinacea, goldenseal, calendula, bloodroot, grapefruit seed extract, essential oil of cinnamon (guess it was cinnamon and not clove that I tasted) and citric acid. I like this stuff!
I also just placed an order at fromnaturewithlove to get some containers for the lip balm I want to make and a few other Christmas gifts I’m thinking of – and for my growing collection of oils that I keep on my bathroom sink. I like to keep them in the cobalt blue pump jars. I put labels on them and they’re always handy. I wanted to try some new oils, but they were out of the ones I wanted.
I’ve gotten back into doing a vinegar rinse on my hair in between the wash and final condition. I washed yesterday – a day early – since I was going into town to visit my son and do some shopping. I dried my hair in a bun until it was almost dry and then took it down by the time I got to his place. Since it was in the bun for maybe 2 or 3 hours and not all night, I didn’t get waves, but it really smoothed down my hair. It was practically straight and with no frizz. Of course, it’s autumn here and there was no humidity in the air – so that helped, I’m sure. My hair is always straighter in the fall and winter when the air is dryer.
I need to go to VitaminShoppe.com and order some AO ‘poo, so will wrap this up.
