Quest for a new hair brush

Last week wasn't a good hair week for me. My ends were feeling a bit dry like they do when they need clarifying, so I washed the entire length with Kenra's poo for color treated hair. I rarely wash the length and when I do, lately I've been using AO or Jessicurl, which my hair seems to like. Even before conditioning, my hair always feels nice and soft. But after using the Kenra, my hair felt rough and stiff - ack! I followed with Nature's Gate Awapuhi conditioner, but it must've not worked well with the Kenra, or was just not strong enough, because when my hair dried, it felt rough and not silky like I'm used to. Adding jojoba and shea butter leave-in didn't help at all. So... I just wore my hair up for the next two days and then did a CWC using Neutrogena's Triple Moist Conditioner and poo. Followed with a vinegar rinse and then did a mini deep treatment with GM's 12-Minute Conditioner. That did the trick and my hair was back to its old self. Hmmm... I've not used the Kenra poo in about year, and back then I liked it just fine. But, I wasn't air-drying a year ago and probably used a Kenra conditioner that worked better with that poo. I need to be more careful with my combinations now that my hair is getting longer.

Speaking of which, I think I've reached my waist! No major announcement yet, but this morning when I was getting dressed and zipping up my pants, I noticed I had to lean my head forward a bit because the tips were getting stuck in my pants! Yeehaw! I also noticed that it just feels longer where it's touching on my lower back now. This weekend I need to measure and eyeball it for sure - if not sooner.

I wanted to wash last night, but didn't make time - was too busy going through all my recipes for lotions and lip balms and bath salts, etc. that I want to make for Christmas (and for myself to just have on hand). I'm about out of my lip gloss/balm that I made last year that I LOVE. It's got cocoa butter, honey, vanilla, vitamin E and almond oil in it and is just so soothing to the lips. Mike even likes to use the stuff. This year I'm going to add a little color to it using a root that I heard works really well.

So I had to wash this morning instead and now that I'm at work, it's just about dry. I used Jessicurl's Cleansing Cream and Aloeba Daily Conditioner and my hair feels soooo soft and slightly fluffy (the way I like it). I didn't put it into bun for drying this morning, so I have a few of my natural ropey type waves. Brushed out it looks pretty nice though - and shiny! So, I'm wearing it down today.

I think the brush that I use during the day when I wear my hair down might be damaging the length of my hair. I inspected it closely last night and instead of looking at the tips of the bristles like I usually do - to make sure they're okay (though they're not really bristles, per se), I checked where the bristles were attached to the base of the brush. DOH! - it was rougher than I'd thought, so I tossed the thing and am now on a quest to find a new brush. I'm using a wide tooth comb today, but I like the feel of a brush on my scalp. For styling and during the day I don't like oval brushes; I like the more rectangular shape - especially if I'm going to be pulling my hair up and back. I think I'm going to have a time finding one I really like, but the search is now on.

Mike took Saturday off and we ended up spending most of it together and having a great time. We went to Whole Foods to pick up some fruit and veggies and more flax oil for me. I wanted to peruse the hair and skin products section since they'd just enlarged that area to at least twice the size as before, but I hate doing that with Mike around since my cupboards are well stocked with products (though I do have some AO poo and conditioner on their way to me from VitaminShoppe) - and he doesn't understand the fascination. I might add, however, that he doesn't mind my taking as long as I want doing such things. I did a quick glance and decided to come back later when I'll have the time to read all those labels and browse to my heart's content. We had our Saturday night date night and on Sunday morning I made pancakes with bananas and walnuts. Last night I baked a winter squash I wanted Mike try in my attempt to broaden his culinary "scope" (he's a white potato man through and through, though he will eat anything I make). This was the kabocha squash, and last year was my favorite. It looks like this:

Well, Mike said it looked like baby poop, so how could it taste good? He ate it, but was not impressed - lol. Next time I will roast chunks of it. I think he didn't like the whipped texture of it - and it did look a bit like baby poop.
