Response to Wedding

I can’t believe I haven’t written here since May! Well, I have some things to catch up on

Mike proposed to me when we were in Asheville, North Carolina weekend before last. It was quite sweet and romantic and I said… yes! He started the proposal at the Biltmore House when we were in the gardens, but got interrupted by a little girl who started yelling that she wanted us to come look at the deer. We laughed and did, but the mood was changed at that point. But he did the "real" proposal over a very romantic dinner later than night. He said I had tears in my eyes.

We are going to have a very small wedding in Montana, somewhere at Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park in September (go here for lots of pictures of the park: www.glacierparkphotos.com). It’ll be just the two of us plus Lois, the preacher and Jenny, the photographer. Oh yes, and LOTS of beautiful scenery. I’ve never been to Montana, and am excited just be there – let alone get married there!

Since the wedding is so small, the planning is minimal. We’ve already arranged the preacher, photographer and location (that was easy!). We’ve also reserved our room and rental car and made plane reservations. Now all we really have to do is figure out what to wear! I’m making my dress and Mike’s shirt, and this is the look I’m going for for me:

It’ll be my version of the Accolade dress. I have two patterns I’m considering, Simplicity 9891 view B (the light blue dress below)

or McCall’s 4378. I’m leaning towards the McCalls pattern since that pattern includes a train on the dress and a cloak, which I also want to make (in case it’s cool in Montana). My version won’t look much like their example though; it’s just the “base” for what I want to make. (I'd post a picture, but for some reason it keeps corrupting the rest of this post when I do.) I can’t wait to get started, but am still deciding on the fabric. I’ve already bought the trim for the belt and it’s beautiful. I will post a picture of it here soon, with two of the fabric samples I have.

And, I want to make Mike a peasant type shirt. I can’t find a good example of what I want to make him on the web, so will just have to wait until I find the right pattern to post a picture.

And, here is a picture of the ring we’re both going to have:

Only ours will be platinum, wider (10 mm wide), and mine will have the diamond that is currently on my “unofficial” engagement ring (that I’ve been wearing since my birthday in 2004) mounted on it. The ring is hand woven and we both fell in love with it.

I’ve also decided to make my bouquet and head wreath out of dried or silk flowers. For one thing, I want to know what they look like before the wedding and I would also like to be able to KEEP them. They won’t wilt and I love the look of dried flowers. Since it will be autumn, I might even choose something like wheat or leaves or a combination of autumn plants. Here is a wreath I like, but it's bigger than what I want to make. But I do like the color and texture of it

I think this is going to be FUN!
