A sleeve, grommets and Mike's muslin

I got quite a bit done this weekend. If I had a special foot for my sewing machine and one of those things you use to iron tight spots, I would have finished my dress completely. I’ll pick those two things up today and work on it after work this week since Mike is flying to Germany today for his dad’s funeral. He'll be back on Sunday... I'm going to miss him... sigh

Here is a picture of part of one of the sleeves on my dress (lined in satin that matches the shiny embroidery on the fabric). It's not had the final ironing and is still a bit wrinkled towards the bottom:

And here is the grommet strip (that I need the different sewing machine foot for to add to the back of my dress). I first added the grommet to the strip, but hated the brassy look, so ended up using embroidery thread to cover it. I like it much better (it’s more subtle). You can also see the cord I’m thinking about using for the lacing:

Below is a picture the muslin version of Mike's shirt - with the sleeves being fiddled with. I’m having to customize it quite a bit so it will fit the way we want it to. He looked like a choir boy when he put the first version on. This picture is after 3 big changes in length and width. And, he wants cuffs instead of elastic on the sleeves, so that will make it look even nicer – though the pattern didn’t come with cuffs. I will have to create my own. I think I’ll have them lace shut instead of using a button, but we’ll see. This muslin fabric makes his sleeves look more puffy than they will be with the final fabric.

And here is the fabric for Mike’s shirt:

I also started on the little purse I’m making to match the dress and will have that done soon. So, everything is coming together. I still have the wreath to make and need to put my flowers together for a nice bouquet, but the most difficult parts are over. So maybe I’ll have time to clean the house again! I’m thinking I’ll have time to make a cloak, so that might be next on my list of things to do. That should be fast and relatively easy though. Picking a fabric out for it will be fun!
