I had a trim (and GM long hair treatment) on Saturday at Farlow’s with Brent Jones and had the best time there. First of all, I found out that Brent was giving me the treatment as a wedding present! How sweet was that?! We had a nice talk about hair and he said mine looked great and there wasn’t any buildup of any kind on it. Since I use cone products I was curious about that, but suspected my hair was fine – and I was right!

I told Brent that I was thinking about growing my hair to tailbone and he said he thought I could do it, but recommended it only if my ends stayed thick and healthy. For some reason I thought he supported all long hair at any length, but he said he really prefers to keep the ends thicker and not just go for length for length’s sake. That’s my thinkin’ on it too for me. He did say that he would support anyone’s desires though and would never cut more than what someone wanted. He LOVES long hair and just wants to make it as beautiful as possible on each person.
He proceeded to give me the treatment and once I had my hair up in the heating cap and was reading, he interrupted me to say he had a “surprise” for me. Turns out that CeliaB had just arrived and we got to meet each other! She’s not on the boards much, but will occasionally drop by – and has the most beautiful silver hair I think I’ve ever seen. It was at least to tailbone and looked to be in perfect condition. Really beautiful. She was getting the treatment too and was a nice as she could be. We chatted a bit, but it was difficult as we were both getting the treatment and there were other distractions as well. So that was a nice surprise!
While I was under the heating cap, Ericka, a massage therapist who works out of Farlow’s asked me if I’d like to have my neck and upper back massaged. I said
yes and holy cow I was glad I did. She was so good at it that I might become a regular with her for back massages. The timing was perfect since I’d just started heavy-duty back at the gym and was sore. She had long hair too, but in dreads. They suited her though.
While I was there, a very curly girl showed up and told Brent her hair didn’t shine anymore. Her hair was maybe to BS, but it was VERY curly so was probably quite long once stretched out. Brent asked her what products she was using and she said “cheap stuff” and the main shampoo she was using was Pantene. Brent said that was “one problem for sure”! He doesn’t like Pantene at all either – lol! He told her what the treatment was all about and she decided to do it. He did tell her (and me, ‘cause I asked) that the point wasn’t to straighten her curls, but to condition her hair in the George Michael way - and in order to do that it would be roller curled. The point of roller curling is to smooth the cuticle and it would help with the condition and shine of the hair. But, once she washed her hair again, her curls would return – only just more conditioned. I got under the hair dryer after that I think, so couldn’t hear much more. I wanted to see how her hair looked afterwards, but was long gone by then.
I got out from the rollers and my hair was quite straight. It felt wonderful, but because it was so straight and the cuticle of my hair was lying so flat, it made my hair feel thin to me. Silly, I guess, but I liked it and didn’t like it at the same time. I doesn’t matter since once I wash it my natural texture will be back. But, it did remind me of when I used to blow my hair dry to the stick straight stage and why I don’t like it anymore.
Oh, he trimmed off about ½” because when I got home I measured and it’s now 32” instead of 32.5” I measured on January 1st. I love trims because my hair just looks a feels so much better after one.
Here is a picture of me at home just before leaving to go to Farlow’s. My hands are at my waist.
And, here are two “after” pictures that Brent took. There is a shadow behind me so it kind of makes the picture look weird. I don’t think it was a good spot to take the picture since we were right under artificial light and the white door just isn’t very complimentary. You can see how my natural texture has been smoothed out – and I have the George Michael “flip”. I’m wearing a black cover-up from there, so am not stylin’ too much in the picture – lol.
It was the best time I’ve had getting the “treatment” and Brent was a sweetheart to give it to me as a wedding gift. By the way, there were people from Germany, Charlotte, Tennessee and one other place I cant remember getting long hair treatments!
