Hi

Can anyone help with some information on dementia (memory loss) in Papua New Guinea and what type of service/treatment is available.
I have a relative who I think is suffering from this as she has been experiencing memory loss and i think its frustrating for her as well as she seems to lash out at anyone who wants to help.
Most of my family think that she is like this because of black magic and have organised for her to see a glass man, however, nothing as changed after she's seen this person.
I believe she is suffering from dementia as I had an Australian work collegue who's mother suffered from this disease.
Can someone please help with this.

Thank you

Stacy

I will give you a web site with this kind of "Dementia" to help you. I do not know if there is a facility in POM for that. Probably contact someone at Laloki Metal Centre, they might be able to help you. I have worked at the nursing home with Alzheimer residents and I hope this website helps a bit.

I have dealt with patients with dementia over 6 years. There many causes of dementia or dementia like complaints such as memory loss, aggressiveness and behavioural disturbances. While many are related to aging process, a few may have treatable causes such as thyroid diseases, depression and minor strokes. I would advice medical or psychiatric assessment before you put it down to dementia /alzeihmers ds. While no effective treatment is available for dementia, her behavioural problems can occasionally controlled with newer anti-psychiatric drugs such as rispedidone or olanzapine. Dementia patients may also require changes in lifestyle such as avoiding unfamiliar surroundings even changes in the house such repositioning chairs, beddings etc.

She may require blood test, Head CT before putting down to dementia. See more info on blood test or scans here:::HTTP://www.medicaltestsexplained.info
