How About

by Ron Messer (Login moonwooten)

The league mandating that the clubs adhere to a gamenight presenation policy that would require the games to be offered to the paying public in an organised and consistent manner instead of the discrepancies that fans can expect when they attend an OLA / MLS game. I have been given goosebumps at a Lakers game in the Boro courtesy of the job that the folks do there, or saddened by the echos in an arena with 30 fans with no music and an announcer that really isnt . Dead "airspace" is a no no at any sports presentation these days and there is far too much of it in the OLA these days . I am currently involved in a project in Jr A Hockey called the CCHL ( Canadian central hockey league ) . This league has a gamenight mandate in its constitution that says how and in what timely manner all games shall begin. For example Music Must be played during warmups and a competent announcer needs to be employed to introduce the starting lineups for both teams at all games . Both teams are required to muster along their own Goaline and then each starter is introduced and must take their place along the blueline . The announcer is allowed at this point to include any Bio or the position of each player as he is introduced. It makes the home town fans more familiar with the players and gives a sense of "ownership " to the fans .This is very important when trying to attract new fans and retain the loyal ones. A seminar of all the leagues gamenight personell was made available where a lot of good ideas were shared and noted by those attending. My own part included that an atmosphere needs to be created so that we can attract the newer citizens and their families whos progengy will become the face of Sports in Canada in the coming generations. So far the response from the fans has been very positive and the league attendance is very stable with good numbers being reported in the early going . All it takes is a little imagination to dress up an arena , make sure all gamenight personnel that interact with the public are dressed accordinly in team gear , look after these folks well. A couple of Pizzas at the end of the game where ideas can be exchanged and some back slapping handed out, these are the ones that team operators too soon forget . A good selection of current music laid out in a thoughtful manner sets the mood in a building and dont forget to Pump your sponsors ,people love to hear their name and it makes them feel like they are getting their moneysworth . I hope my contacts within the OLA read this and try to put something in place for the coming season .
