Defense wins championships, and when it was 8-3 for the Buzz well into the third, I thought they were on the verge of a remarkable defensive performance, and that the last few minutes of the game would be boring..but....Halton finally found a few cracks and ran the score to 8-6 with still more than 5 minutes left...so not so fast. However, the Buzz played shutdown the rest of the way, and a Halton penalty in the last 2 minutes let the home crowd (no one called Guinness to verify if this was a home attendance record for Junior B lax, likely not) breathe a little easier. The Buzz lead was built on the strength of some suffocating D and high quality tending, and also a second period penalty kill that saw the boys down 2 men-for 4-5 minutes, and yet only surrender 1-goal, there's your TSN turning point. Only 2-1 for the Buzz at the end of 1, the Buzz popped 2 quick ones at the start of the second to open up a 4-1 lead, and the game was never closer than 2 after that. Undoubtedly lots of the boys in the game have played each other in minor lax forever, but despite that it was not a penalty-filled affair, and the only tilt was more of a Mother's day special, buckets on, don't mess up my flow for pictures on Sunday.
I am not trying to stir the pot by saying it still irks me to see Halton leave the floor immediately after the last whistle and not shake hands, yes I've read all the threads, just saying after a spirited affair that was fairly played by both sides, I see no reason not to congratulate your opponent on a well-played game, win or lose, just my 2 cents, I have heard/read the arguments on both sides. The schedule maker was not doing the Buzz any favours by having them play Clarington-Halton-Clarington, quite a 3-game ride, but after a tie and a win to show for their efforts so far, the bench staff must be proud of the boys efforts so far, could they take 5 out of 6 points with a home win next week?? If you are coming to the game and have some extra speakers lying around, please donate them to Glen Abbey arena, the boys "pump-up" music is not really cutting it with the blown-out speakers, all the Justin Bieber tunes for the Halton warm-up sounded terrible!!
