A quick 2-0 start for the visitors gave the Buzz just the slap they needed to get going, and the hometown boys picked up the pace to lead 4-3 after one. The second period was all Buzz as they drained 10 goals, including some particularly filthy snipes for numbers 16, 20 and 8, lock up your daughters!! Usually a 14-6 lead going into the third means that the third will be very pedestrian and boring, and such was the case tonight, as Markham could not find the handle for even one marker, and the Buzz just ran 30's on offense. A first home win for the backup tendy, and while not tested to the max, he made several good stops, and a highlight reel beauty when he bobbled a free ball a little, but dove back into the crease to prevent an awkward goal, and a shutout third period had to feel good. Markham is undoubtedly the most sportsmanlike team to visit the Hive this year, no silliness that I saw despite trailing by a fair margin, and extremely polite in all their dealings with the refs, I know that doesn't necessarily make for a championship season but was still nice to see.
The Buzz can run the table to claim first place in the South-east division, with still a home and home series with Halton to play. It would be sweet to win the next three, including a home date with the Bulldogs next Friday, only to see everything on the line in Halton on the last night of the regular season. I know coaches, miles to go yet, I'm just sayin'.....
