I woke up on Sunday and today and rushed to the Toronto dailies expecting to see a healty dose of Minto Cup coverage given that choosing a host 18 months in advance leads to greater press coverage (according to certain pundits). Imagine my dismay when there was nary a story.
How is attendance going with all those ticket packages starting to be sold 18 months in advance? I have watched the posted highlights and the stands seem to be farily empty. I notice that attendance is not being posted in the Poinstreak boxscores.
Tomorrow night will see a compeltely meaningless game being pl;ayed between Whitby and Coquitlam in advance of Wednesday's semi-final between the same two teams. I'll bet that the walk up crowd for this game will be massive (insert sarcasm emoticom here).
Further, the Alberta participation continues to be pointless. Their teams cannot compete at this level and can't even give the Ontario second place team (and semi-final loser in a very short series) a decent game. C'mom, five goals for in two lacrosse games - they are embarassing themselves. And their participation isn't having the desired effect in Alberta with their league stuck at four teams, at least two of which (and likely all four) should still be in Junior B.
