The figure bowed her head, the liquid water slipping forward to hide her features, and she seemed to melt. As she did so, another figure, a few feet further away, reversed the process so that it's head raised to once again focus that alarming gaze on Zehera just as the first faded into ripples on the surface.
"We are nice," it assured her, tilting its head and offering a smile. "Your song is a happy one, because you came to see us. We have been very lonely." The head tilted back the other way, and the eyes were clouded by the lids and translucent lashes. Her mouth opened again, and she began to quietly sing, wordless, with a lilting melody that seemed to often hit multiple notes at one time. Like her voice, it was faded and indistinct, the sound one would expect from water when it sang. | |
