| After beating top of the league Fram (All Brits) 5-1 I have been selected to play in goal at the annual England v Rod Stewarts Scotland match to be played 13th May at Nansen Park.
The All Stars finished the season in second place with a great win against the undefeated Fram who boasted a seasons figures of W22 D1 L1.
Attached is the match report from our coach Joe who was ecstatic to say the least.
Happy Easter!
Peter
Man, what can I say. It sure was a FRAMtastic day for all of you who helped us put up an impressive win, like I said before, A STATEMENT.
We even had help before the game, when I noticed a few wives sitting behind us showing up in support of their husbands and good looking coach. We had our Team Mom, Kristen who later on at Grunion's had to celebrate with us with a very sore throat. Man she can scream ( good ).
It sure was a spectacular day. There was "Finals Atmosphere" in the air. We won convincingly against this year's Champs. A team that had kicked our butts the last couple of times but not this time.
But this time it was different. I was very confident all week because I knew we now had a REAL GOALIE who played like a Champ. We also had a REAL 10 showing off his skills with a possessed 19 who drove their biggest man in their defensive line crazy ( on and off the field which I hope doesn't happen anymore ). We had players who came prepared. Players like Sergio who played a different position yet was impeccable ( he deserved to have scored on that tremendous free-kick which was unbelievably saved ). Guy although a little nervous played the hardest and most physical game I've seen him play. Eddie as usual, leading the way like a true CAPTAIN. Rudy, what can I say. He was the Berlin Wall. Even the Fram coaching staff asked me his age. I had to lie, I told them he was only 49. They couldn't believe how good he was playing. What about Colin who hadn't played for a while ( broken wrist ) coming to help on his birthday ( HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUDDY ) and helping us win specially when I didn't have enough players to substitute because of getting in trouble with the referee. I sure appreciated him being there. I'm not going to forget Craig who this time brought his "A" game and played a role in this game. He made his wife proud I'm sure.
As usual, we played better in the second half after a break with a few suggestions, changes and a team discussion. We really have become a tight group once again showing that nobody's perfect and that everyone can help in some way or another.
As for the match, I can say that some changes were made before the game in other words during the week which paid dividends. For instance Mike ( the Persian Roberto Carlos) played Sweeper. He proved to everybody who was watching the game at The Cage ( Marine ) why he is one of the best players in our league. This recognition is a result and a reward that we all appreciate as individuals. When the opposition acknowledges your talent, that's what it's all about. When they nothing but good things to say and I heard it with my own ears.
Nice things were said about a few of our men at the end of the game. Arturo and Shad were mentioned to me by the Fram Boys as well as Peter who might as well have worn a "NO ENTRY ALLOWED" T-shirt instead of a goalie one, because he was the PLAYER OF THE GAME. He was the one who this time gave us a chance of winning. This position had always been the difference between them and us, but not today. I even received an e-mail from the QUEEN a few minutes ago. Yeah,"Queen Latiffa" or whatever her name is, I don't know why though. Maybe she wants to make a video with him.
Five goals that won't be forgotten soon. Eddie once again from outside placing it over their keeper's head to put us ahead in the score early in the game. Then Arturo who played like never before, and I mean that in a positive way, because anybody can play tough and have a good game against a so-so team, but only the good and real players excel against Fram. This Classic Match or Duel is for players who take it to a higher notch. Definitely !!!!!!!!!
Arturo put us 2 nil on a beautiful play by a Real # 10 ( Shad ) who centered it to our Mexican Striker. Then came a nice reward for Steve who had played hard and was against a very tough and at times very dirty defender, scoring on a shot kicked to perfection with the outside of his foot. An important goal that deflated the opposition. I could see it in their faces and their arguing among themselves.
Oh no !, then in one of the very few chances he had, our ex-teammate HalBLOOP, I mean Haluk, miskicked a shot that went in somehow giving them hope and very much needed lift.
Personally it was very strange seeing my buddy for many years wearing a Fram uniform.
I don't know if it was an insult to us or to me, if it was the result of a midlife crisis or simply a change or dream come true for him. The truth is he didn't look too happy. I know that deep down inside he still is an ALLSTAR, but in his heart only, not on the field because he chose to leave us, so be it. I say this because I don't want people to dislike him for the choice he made. For the longest time he and I talked and dreamed about the ass kicking we gave them. Believe me, not many people wanted to be part of it more than Haluk. But he happened to be on the wrong side this past Sunday. In fact I have inside information, that today he worked all day standing up, no sitting down at all ( soreness ).
Back to the game, in which Chuy came out of his slump and played his heart out. He played aggressively and took a hard shot that couldn't be stopped by their goalie in which Arturo rebounded. The came the last one for a player who may be small in size but has BIG BALLS. A player who has more finesse than anyone out there yet can hold his own against hackers. In fact he added a PIRATE to his "School Bus list", because he took him to school all game long.
A day we will never forget. A win that really puts us up there. Hopefully an incentive to all in playing hard and winning the Oldham Cup, which starts on April 30th ( different trophy ).
It was nice to see everyone happy and celebrating big at Grunions. I even had a rum and coke ( Ha, Ha, Ha ).
Happy Easter to all and one more thing. Thank you for making sure you could be there in helping us win and thank you for making my work worthwhile.
Cheers.

Hey Peter
You're becomimg more famous out there than Tony Blair and Ricky Gervais.
Reading between the lines, I think your manager was a tad happy with the latest result.
The real test however comes in your match against the sweaty's. You concede a goal, let alone lose the match, confines your status as a great keeper to the 'GARBAGE' can.
PETER KELLY - YOU'RE THE GREATEST |
