Response to More problems at school (sorry this is long)

Yesterday M had a really good day. He was praised for it immensly(can't spell that word). I was also pleased to note that he is starting to read all by himself. It used to be that he wouldn't go near a book unless he had to...lol! I wish that I could home school him, but that isn't an option for us for financial reasons. His current school(with the exception of that one woman who said he drives them crazy when he doesnt take his meds) is pretty supportive. He is already enrolled in an IEP, and his teacher is really good with him from what I have seen and heard. I am pretty sure that he would stay with her if we decided to keep him back next year. We still need to have a conference with the school sometime next week.

On the grounding thing...I don't think it works either. What happens is that he behaves until he gets something back and then it starts all over again. I think that DF does that because he doesn't know what else to do. We are going to buy a few books and try a couple of different approaches. (Nurtured heart approach and the other book I think is called raising your spirited kid).

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I appreciate it! I've only been a mom to this boy since last June, so most of this is still new to me. It was really hard for me to realize that we aren't going to be able to raise M like a "normal" child. My first instinct is to act like my parents did...(my parents were very very strict, and had no tolerance for fits or anything of the sort) but then I realize that it won't work with M, and I seek advice. Hopefully I will get better with time.

Happy Friday everyone!!!!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
