Letter: Glad gun registry to be dismantledby NancyLetter: Glad gun registry to be dismantled Date: Feb 17, 2006 11:16 AM PUBLICATION: The Toronto Star DATE: 2006.02.17 EDITION: ONT SECTION: Letter PAGE: A23 WORD COUNT: 123 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- Glad gun registry to be dismantled ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- Tories load up to kill gun registry Feb. 15. I am pleased to hear that the Conservative government has created a committee to figure out how to best dismantle the long gun registry. As we all know, the long gun registry has cost Canadian taxpayers more than $1 billion so far and has an annual operating cost of $90 million. Cracking down on law-abiding hunters and sport shooters will not make the streets of Toronto any safer or more dangerous. The long gun registry misses the mark. The funds that support the registry must be used to hire police officers, border guards and the required infrastructure to target and punish the criminal and illegal use of firearms.
