or a knife? They are all just TOOLS, INANIMATE OBJECTS! Don't blame them!by Nancy :(Teen stabbed at Cameron Heights Collegiate Date: Oct 12, 2006 9:33 AM PUBLICATION: The Record (Kitchener, Cambridge and Waterloo) DATE: 2006.10.12 EDITION: Final SECTION: FRONT PAGE: A1 BYLINE: FRANCES BARRICK SOURCE: RECORD STAFF; With files from Melinda Dalton, Record staff DATELINE: KITCHENER WORD COUNT: 381 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- Teen stabbed at Cameron ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- Waterloo regional police arrested a 17-year-old Kitchener youth yesterday shortly after a student at Cameron Heights Collegiate in Kitchener was kicked, punched and stabbed in the head in a school hallway. The incident happened just eight days after a lockdown at Forest Heights Collegiate in Kitchener was triggered by a group of students, two armed with steel pipes, who walked into the suburban school. Seven Forest Heights students have been charged in connection with that incident. Yesterday, just before noon at Cameron Heights, a male Grade 11 student was sitting in a basement hallway with friends when the 17-year-old, who is not a student at the school, approached him, Insp. Bryan Larkin said. There was an exchange of words before the 16-year-old boy said he was kicked and punched in the head, he said. "The student attempted to defend himself and was stabbed in the head (with) a weapon similar to an X-Acto knife," Larkin said. The injured student ran to the school's main office holding his bleeding head, the school's principal Kelly Kempel said. The student later walked out to a waiting ambulance and was taken to Grand River Hospital where he received stitches for a cut on his head and a cut on his cheek, Larkin said. He was released from hospital yesterday. The victim knew his assailant, Larkin said. "This is related to a non-school incident. They've had several verbal exchanges in the days leading up to this." The pair had previously been friends, until a recent falling out, the principal said. Prior to this incident, the victim had allegedly also received threatening e-mail messages from his assailant, she said. The suspect was arrested near the Charles Street school. He is charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, and is expected to appear in court today for a bail hearing. Kempel said school security continues to be a "point of discussion" with school officials, especially in light of last week's incident at Forest Heights and recent school shootings in Montreal and the United States. While the school's front door is unlocked during school hours, other entrances to this downtown school have controlled access, she said. There are video-surveillance cameras at the front of the school. The hallway where the assault occurred is well-supervised by teachers, she said. Larkin said the suspect found the alleged victim with the help of students he knew at the school. Other students who witnessed the attack ran to nearby teachers for help. "While we know it (the school) is a piece of the community, it is a guarded piece of the community," the principal said. "It is a challenge as an educator and a parent to protect our kids from fights and violence," she said. The Second Amendment IS Homeland Security !
