Misinformed on registry

Re "Decision time for the registry" (Point of View, Paul Berton, April
12): By rubber stamping the same error as every other journalist who
reported this story, Paul Berton displays the same lack of knowledge as
the general public whom he claims support the registry. The amnesty is
for the registration of guns -- not licensing of owners. There is a very
important distinction here. Owners are still required to have a license
or the same penalties (10 years) apply. Now, let us put this
"police-use-the-registry-7,000-times-per-day" factoid into perspective.
Every time the police do an address check or traffic stop a computer hit
is registered on the Gun Registry. If you were stopped today, congrats,
you contributed to the $1-billion boondoggle.
