Just saw a commercial on dutch television for an insurance company (FBTO).
It was about 4 ladies (not ours in the flesh!) being discovered as a singing group.Clearly a referral to the early 70's, black+white tv and such.
One went somewhat lunatic so they ended up with 3 on stage.
Singing and dancing WWISYA. with a big sign THE THREE DEGREES behind them.
Since the 3D own the rights to their name in europe, do they have anything to do with it?
Or maybe will be in a follow up from this commercial themselves??
Common Val, shed some light on this.
love
Harry

Tonight (28-06-2006) they showed the commercial on various TV-channels. I saw the commercial 4 times tonight. I managed to tape it. It's very funny actually and nice. And although the total commercial takes less than 1 minute, they managed to put a few good sounding lines of WWISYA in it. Well done! I wonder how those agencies get the idea to make a commercial like this.

Here in the Uk WWISYA is being used by the Food Standards Agency to advertise that you cook your food properly if you have a BBQ this summer so that you don't poison someone, but its not our girls singing it, it's a session singer.
Also i remember the AA using WWISYA which was sung by our girls in their ad when a woman's car breaks down and the guy who comes to fix it is here old flame.

I dont think it would sell, or be a big hit, and for a record lable to invest in promotion of something that would not chart would not be worth their while, especially as singles are not selling today and stores like HMV and Virgin their singles section has got smaller and smaller as more kids are into downloads today, which is a shame, just look what happened to Sheila's dance version of WWISYA and she was backed by Telstar who are a huge promotion/record lable here in the UK, if its not RnB (which has killed pop music here in the UK) or some indie trash then record lables aint interested, even after the 100's of versions of WWISYA it is only The Three Degrees version which has been a hit, but even though I would love to see them back in the charts its not going to happen with WWISYA.

I must say that that is such a negative attitude. Yes, times do change but there is always a market for good pop/soul music. If its downloads that people want, then release a new single thats accessible in that way. You have to move with the times, which is something I have heard the Girls say on many an occasion. Why not re-release WWISUA...especially as its been sung on TV recently, no matter what the circumstances! Other people do it..and sometimes it works! There is never a guarantee with music - sometimes it hits, sometimes it doesn't...but if you don't try, you never find out!

Jeremy mate you know I love the girls as much as you and would love to see them back in the charts, but it boils down to money everytime, record lables, producers and the lot are not willing to throw money at a project if it aint going to be a bit and shift a lot of units for them to recoupe what was spent on recording, producing, remixing, advertising it, its a tough biz to be in now, money is very tight, and singers dont make huge amounts of cash off the back of singles the lable, writers do, acts make their cash from touring, why do you think the girls tour so much, because like you and me they have bills to pay, mouths to feed.
Im sorry if you feel I was being negative, I was just saying how it is today, not just with the girls, but with most acts peddling their new stuff out there, its dog eat dog.

I appreciate what you say...and believe me, i know what you say is true and its always been the case that touring brings the money in..and yeah...we do all have mouths to feed..in fact, the older they get the more feeding they all need!!!!!!!!
All I was trying to convey is that a bit of luck is needed too...lets face it mate, most of the acts today were just in the right place at the right time..who needs talent when you can appear on a reality tv show and get to Number 1? Just think how it could be for a long standing Group like our Girls who have the talent thats needed...I wish the Companies could see past the rubbish and look at a real pop-combo who can do the business!
Anyway, its about time this forum had a good, heated debate!!! Thats us two done...anyone else got any comments about this???
Darren...hope all is well with you and yours mate!!!
