Response to I want to believe, I just can't.
I kind of take exception to PG not being a real hockey town because they don't support the Cougars win, lose, or draw. For 7 years the support was outstanding even when the on-ice results were middle of the road at best.
I think there's an implied contract between fans and a team, that the team is trying their best to win, with what they have for resources. The Cougars management have not put their best efforts or resources in, so you can't expect the fans to blindly support them, when the team is just a cash cow for an absentee owner.
PG has given the Cougars great support, while all the while still supporting the Spruce Kings and several midget teams, bantam teams, atom teams, etc.
A good example would be this Vancouver game last Tuesday. Brodsky has the option of spending $3000.00 and flying the kids to Vancouver for the game, giving them the advantage of having slept in their own beds the night before, and not having spent 10 hours on a bus. This was a huge game, and for $3000.00 lousy dollars, he could've given them every advantage, and he could've shown the fans he's not all about money, and he didn't. Now how can he possible expect blind loyalty from us.
Having said all that, I'll be there this weekend, because I do believe in this bunch of kids. I also think we have to thank Gilbert Brule, because his remark to the team got them fired up to play for themselves, not for their coach.
