it is to watch the Cougars play this game...OHHHHH!
On a perfect night for hockey (read SNOWING!!!
) A great battle was waged within the confines of CN Center (Yes it can only ever be the PLEX but...new team, new name). Truly we have an exceptionally fine skating team to watch this year. It really looked like the Ice (in both games) were at least a step behing 85+% of the time. We punished them physically for long periods of time and the hits guys like Zimmer, Fuller, Wishart, etc are laying on their opponents lately are some of the best aspects of their game. As the gear (gloves, helmets, mouthgards and sticks) explode off of their victims I almost feel sorry for the aches and pains, both present and in the future, they will be experiencing. The flow of these games was great when they were playing but I find myself really wondering a lot what happened to the whistle-5 seconds-drop puck rule vanished. If they followed the rules you wouldn't have time for some of the shenanigans we saw before the puck dropped. Personally I think the Ice were trying to slow up the game as much as they could to catch their breath. I know it was great entertainment but regulation did not end until very close to, or after 10:00. Not that I mind, but I did enjoy the pace of games more when they were winding down around 9:30. I don't mind the 1 minute radio time outs.
My one real bitch about this game is this...Why is it that a guy who is supposed to be in the box serving 17 minutes in penalties, gets to take the first shot in a shootout? Please educate me. He received his penalties around the 10 minute mark of the third period, so I figure he still had a couple of minutes to serve. I guess they just exonerate all past sinners when the horn after OT blows. If that is the case, I personally think it is a loophole that should be fixed.
