Response to Re: who's the tough guys now?
Yes, you are right, Cepek will be pretty tough.
After 3 or 4 years in the WHL and a tryout with the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings, I would believe he has proven his toughness! That said it is important to note that "team toughness" and the "will to compete" are what matters.
Yes, the team probably needs a 'nuclear deterrent' like the Cougars used to have ( Boogard, Byflugien, Chara etc ) that could take on the other team's fighter. If, and/or when they need that I believe the Cougars will go and find someone to fill that role. I mean, be honest, any Jr B ( Jungle B) league has players that are skill deficient, one dimensional, scrappers.
As for the defense being pushed around I am willing to wait and see.
Cepek I have commented on above.
Hobbs is 6.1 205,
Scherger is 5.10 205,
Bidlevski is 6.1 and almost 200,
and the 16 yr old is 5'11 almost 190.
Bauer and Cumming are light but they make up for it in heart.
Also maybe the trades are going to keep coming until there is more size on D??
It is important to note that the Cougars have only given up 11 goals in the first 4 games and one goal was into an empty net, which means their goals against average is only 2.50.
Goaltending is a big reason but the D must be doing something right!
This team is a young group as far as WHL experience is concerned but it has solid veteran leadership with Dana and, now, Kevin Armstrong, and Cepek. I, for one, believe that this team will do very well this year and by year's end will surprise a lot of people with their solid play.
