These two will be all of 15(to start) and 17 years old in this upcoming season...they will struggle of course, but they will still look pretty darn good but I'd be surprised if they were paired together very often.
Forsberg looked great offensively at the start of the year but he was told to focus more on his defensive game. Then he got hurt and played through "discomfort" for most of his first season...wouldn't blame his slow offensive second half on coaching unless you are prepared to acknowledge the coaching in helping to get off to a stellar start. My guess is that with some summer beefing up, his defensive "talents" will improve dramatically and he will be turned loose, offensively, more this season. Smith has a great opportunity to come back in excellent shape to camp after an "easy break in period" to start his carreer in the WHL. If he does this, he will probably easily be in the top on this team's defense. Not going to comment on rumours and rumblings about a year old...an a young one at that...d-man(hardest postition to excell at) who had to play on a horrid defensive team.
I look forward to seeing the young Smith in camp again, fighting for his first spot, earning it, and earning his time on the ice.
