We are lucky to be battling for 4th. Moose Jaw is a year older and wiser. Saskatoon is returning a ton. The Raiders are returning far more talent then we are. Regina cannot be as bad again, or can they?
While we do have strong goaltending in Plante, he is not the best the league has to offer. Many a scout and the draft have already said otherwise. On the point Brandon should be alright, but where are all the goals going to come from? Even the Euro taken the draft is recognized as a defensive forward. I am hard pressed to even find a single 30 gaol scorer on this roster. Burki really played well towards the end of last year and needs to pick up the pace offensively. Cannot count on much from either Topilko or Moore. Hunter shouldn't be in the league as a 19 year old. You cannot expect the new guys coming in to contribute immediately as it rarely happens in this league.
My guess is the wins we get are going to be your typical 2-1, or 1-0 victory, much like the Everett fans have witnessed the past few years. I can hardly wait for all the icings we are going to see after Brandon is up a goal or 2.
*Plante will start in 59 of the 72 games, unless he gets hurt.
*Moore misses 2 breakaway chances in the first 5 games.
*Riley Day will tangle with Collins from the Raiders.
*Burki will pick a fight and lose to some 16 year old rookie.
*Topilko will not see a corner of a rink untill game 9, after he is benched.
*Even though we will only have the 1-20 year old people will still be glad that Chicken Chef isn't here.
*Yeo will look to take on the physical role left by Webb's departure.
*Dittmer will play approximtely 17 games before he quits to join the J&G Dynasty of the Westman Winter Hockey League citing a chance to once again be on a championship team.
*Burki will lead the team in goals with 21 and points with 54.
*Courchene will turn over the puck in the defensive zone prompting a huge collective groan from the 4,100 in attendance at the home opener.
*We will not have a scorer in the top 25 in the WHL, maybe not even the top 35.
*Hot dog prices at the Keystone will jump to $4.00 each or $3.25 for day olds.
