The Libertines at Reading

I want to know honestly people- do you really care if The Libertines carry on? I am now of the belief that Peter has left the band and will rise again through Babyshambles. It left a bad taste in my mouth to watch them yesterday- poor old Pete. He has been used and abused by people professing to love him, well, I'm sure they do. But please, the guy is a genius and has been treated like a complete cunt. I hope The Libertines end now- right or wrong Pete is living his life and doing his thing. Also, the Babyshambles gigs I have seen have been just as good, if not better, than any Libertines gigs I have seen. The king has been sacked, long live the king?

If today's bloody press was anything to go by, the libs are over - think it was the scotsman that wrote a completely shabby article about how they were rubbish in the first place. The guy seemed pro drugs one minute, anti the next, and if a coherent argument was made throughout the whole sorry afair then I apologise. But from where i was reading, it was the worst piece of crap I have ever come across!

That's what the press are there for- just look at how they loved Paula "I Quit" Rafdcliffe, they want the best to fall apart. Personally I think The Libertines are over... but who know's but the boys in the band? Shame that the inspiration behind nearly everything they do isn't one of the boys anymore. I hope they get down on their hands annd knees- they're beggin you... what will you do? Tell em where to stick it and laugh next year when Babyshambles headline Reading!

yeah but ...

yeah, but basically in the end pete and carl TOGETHER have a real amazing magic that, great as they are, babyshambles are not the libertines.
Pete + carlos + gary + john = good

see, i agree to that too

i was watching the two gonzo interviews with Peter and Carl today and they are so brillaint together, it would be such a shame to waste that but i really dont think that this will be the total end, even if the officaly split or something.. theres just way too much between those two

sorry, im not making any sence

yer, they are both on it along with a lot of other stuff

its fantastic!

but it makes me sad, esp in the first gonzo interview where Peter is speaking about if it all falls through, as long as they have eachother its ok

all i need to say now is BIZMARK

the scotsman article was basically worthy of no more attention than you'd give to the bottom of your boots. unless you enjoy obsessing over the bottoms of your boots. in which case i suppose it'd be reasonable.

but anyways, what i've heard from just about everyone i know who went to reading is that the libertines set was killer.

best of luck to pete with the rambing and the shambling and his own endeavours and whatnot, but The Libertines still are (for the time being anyway), not were.

the libs set at reading was really good, better than most bands at their very best but it was still the second worst libs gig i have seen behind last year at reading when they were also peter-less. thats not an insult its just they have raised the bar so high. Carl looked shattered and a little lonely on stage and i dont think he looks comfortable as the main frontman. the libertines without peter are still the best band around by some way but are nowhere the band they are with him. i agreed with Carls decision to kick Peter out but if what ive heard about Peter being off the crack is true its clear he is making an effort. Babyshambles will continue all the time pete isnt in the libs so its not as if carl is protecting pete from the perils of being surrounded by drugs while on tour. as far as i can tell and i confess i dont know a lot, pete seems healthy/happy/stable enough to return to the band now. xx

I agree with everything you said- Pete is not being protected by Carl. Actually, this is all down to that McGee monster who did something similar with Oasis (remember the USA tour etc... He orchatrated most of their "rows"). The difference is that The Libertines need no hype- just the four coolest, talented people to form a band for over twenty years! I was so excited when I first heard "What a Waster" and then when I heard "Up the Bracket" I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! All I am saying is that Carl should have the courage of his own convictions, believe in his mate and bring him back NOW- or Babyshambles will get better and bitter and Pete will wonder why he should even bother returning. I can confirm as well that if he is on the brown at the moment he is very good at disguising it. He looks fit, healthy and happy and the Babyshambles gigs I have seen recently have been truely wonderful. Watch out carl- you literally are cutting off you arm to spite your face! (Ps- 1- Is it true Babyshambles have a record deal and 2- Did you see what Carl had to say about Pete at Reading, it was extremely contemptuous). A 19 date Babyshambles tour is not a small little side project is it!!!
