Well, you could have knocked me down with a bloody feather!!
Last night at Hackney Empire was not was I was expecting at all. It was EVEN better!!!!
The music began rather mellow, nice and chilled to begin the evening. The theatre was beautiful, very intimate and an excellent choice for such an event.
The very talented artist who painted a brilliant canvas of 'An Evening With Pete Doherty' was rather impressive. (I wonder how much that will go for?)
Unfortunatley the crowd were rather incosiderate of the 'old man from the 60's' and talked through most of his performance - Pete even commented on this. I felt bad for him when people boo'd him as he was very talented and clearly Pete felt he desevered to play in his show.
But regardless of this, those who did appreciate him made themselves known with cheers and applause.
Pete was on top form. He even refused to 'Down It' when someone handed him a beer and cheers from the crowd tried to pursuade him to go mad. His performance was perfect. Great choice of songs, the occasional expected humour and really healthy and happy.
Then.....
He announces he is to be joined on stage by Carl Barat.... as you can imagine everyone went crazy, clapping louder than before, standing, waiting..... then Mr D says "only joking" and everyone takes their seat with a light hearted chuckle at his humour.
A few moments later who enters onto the stage? But Mr Carl Barat himself!!! Yes! It was the moment that the majority of that crowd have been waiting for for a very long time. They hug, they play fantastic together as they always did, those who were lucky enough to be there last night really did witness something very special indeed. Music History was made right there, right then.
From our perspective it was as if they had never been apart. They sang well, played well, and shared a beer and the occasional embrace.
The atmosphere was indescribable. It is an experience I myself will never forget.
They left the stage and after coming back to take a bow there was an announcment that there would be a 15 minute interval.
To my dissapointment, when I returned after only ten minutes to have a fag and grab more drinks, the curtain was down and the audience were being asked to leave. I don't know what happened in that ten minutes but I could not even find dissapointment in my soul after the wonderful night I had already enjoyed.
Boy am I glad I didn't give in to those ebayers and those touts!!!

I was there, unbelievable, I can't believe I nearly got kicked out though, when Biggles came on stage I went and stood at the front of the balcony and then was told by the big ugly bouncer to go back to my seat (bless him he didn't understand what was going on) and so I said a few obscenities towards him and had to stand outside whilst they played tell it to the king, I thought I was gonna get kicked out but they did let me back, what a night though, fucking fantastic!
