Todd, you did a great thing by making his last days comfortable ones. We have all had pets who have died, and you did the best you could by providing him a safe and comfortable place to rest. I believe his suffering would have been worse if he was left in the gutter.
You really deserve to have a pet. I hope you consider again the options of getting a cat, dog, or hamster.
