Attention, please, Fantasy cruisers

I hate to make this request, but could you please confine the fantasy posts to one thread at a time? When it hits around 100 posts, then you can switch to one new thread.

Not everyone understands or enjoys them. Let's give them a chance to avoid the more creative posts if they wish.

We'll be switching to a new forum shortly which will alleviate SOME of this problem. Until then, please bear with me.

Don't forget there is a chat room, if you want to use it.

Thanks a bunch!

Cruise is over

June 11 2008, 2:50 PM

We were instructed to start a new thread for the fear of the original one crashing your site (which from what i can understand would be a complete travesty) As told we indeed started a new thread which was all in good fun and in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM disrespectful to Michael so i dont really understand what the problem is. The day that you start classing yourself as a 'special fan' and start taking things way too seriously thats when the fun and enjoyment goes out of it.

Am sorry but i am not interesting in being part of a board where you are persecuted, told where to post and told that having a laugh is not acceptable. Being completely honest with you there has been more activity on this board in the past three weeks than there has been for the past three months so it was to your benefit that people had started posting on the board as it would have kept it at the top of the google search list. Would not have joined the chat room if i was paid because there are a hundred and ten things that i would rather be doing than listen to a bunch of women boasting about their 'relationships' with Michael.

Its a shame was a relatively new fan of Michael am just going to have to find unofficial sites where having a laugh is accepted and new fans are made welcome.

I'm aware that there will be people who visit/participate on Fanfare, for whom English is not their first language, and may have difficulty in understanding our silly (and I thought inoffensive) goings on, however,
I'd like to state that it was never my intention to offend, insult or cause problems for any member of this board, or any visitor to this board, during my trip on HMS Prince Michael.

I have far too much respect for the man I have admired for 25 years that would make me want to offend or upset any other "fans".

To my shipmates, its been an absolute pleasure !!!

I've obviously been drinking too much neat rum

A x

I apologize if you don't feel welcome, hazepaze. It was certainly NOT my intention to shut down your fun, merely to make everyone happy.

All I recall doing is asking you to limit the fantasy stuff to one thread at a time and to start a new thread when the posts got to be 100 or so. Network 54, our host, is an old-style forum and I know from past experience on other Net54 boards that long threads DO slow it down. I thought I was helping you. You didn't see it that way. I'm sorry. I didn't explain what was going on or my reasons very well.

I am moving this forum to a new host SOON so we don't have to worry about it and then you can post on the same thread FOREVER, if you like.

I said nothing about the cruise being disrespectful of Michael because I don't see it that way. I don't see it as being disrespectful of other users either. I simply would like to see you limit it just a bit for the reasons I stated beforehand. I want everyone to feel comfortable here.

I'll cheerfully do what I can to make things right for you, to make you happy, but please don't make assumptions about me or the other users of this site. We honestly try not to make them about you, after all. We all deserve respect.

Blessed be,

Re: Attention, please, Fantasy cruisers

Having currently been the only non-native person posting I feel like it was, at least partly, me who Celeste had in mind saying "not everybody understands or enjoys them".
As for enjoyment - (as long as it is inoffensive, of course) the fact that something may not be to somebody's liking should not be a factor restricting the choice of entertainment for others. If you don't enjoy something, you simply don't participate.
As for understanding - well, that's a personal risk of an individual visiting a foreign site.
On the whole, I'm quite saddened with the outcome of this affair.

Saddened

Actually, it WASN'T you, Joanna. It was a few others that I heard from privately who couldn't figure out what was going on. A couple of them seriously thought you were all holding a costume party.

I'm saddened too. Not only did the fun STOP, but because assumptions were made on my motives and reasons for doing what I felt I needed to do, I got flamed. That isn't pleasant.

Celeste luv, you have done nothing wrong. I think your earlier post regarding keeping the fantasy cruise thread to one thread at a time was a totally fair and reasonable request. At no time did you say that it couldn't continue... you made a simple and civil request in order to facilitate the board being enjoyable for everyone whether they did or did not wish to participate in the fantasty thread. There was nothing wrong with that and you did as any reasonable webmaster/board administrator would do in the circumstances.

It's about balance... and you did everything you could reasonably have done do keep that balance on the board and to keep things running smoothly for everyone.

I'm afraid I think the response you received was somewhat harsh and unnecessary... but what can you do? You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

Looking forward to the new forum mate; I think it'll be great!

Huge hugs to you as always!

Sail along silver girls

Actually, I thought the thread, starting completely out of the blue, was quite funny and creative, and I made sure not to miss it as it went on. And what's wrong with costume parties? Michael disguises as somebody else all the time! He is a very creative person, so why should his fans not be? It has been said that you cannot admire a trait in another person, unless it's in you, too. And to learn a foreign language is is like being on a never ending discovery mission. There may be something new around the corner.
