Before i had my lesson i showed the pro Richard's lesson dvd. I also showed him fig 18 and explained to him the importance of the forward trailing elbow as well as the spring position. He is very open minded, not making any attempt to convert me back to the conventional swing.
After a few practice shots he told me that my problem was that i was not completing the swing according to the book. He said i came down fine however that my hips where not keeping up the pressure, my lower body stopped and my upper body took over just before impact. The result was that my trailing arm collapsed and i pulled the club towards my body. He assured me that my trailing elbow was in the correct position but that i was not coming through. He commented on my trailing heel not coming up. So it seems that my problem is not so much fig 18 but fig 19-21. He said that it will take some time to get out of the habit.
The lesson made me aware of the importance of the follow through. I noticed that Richard finishes in a position with the weight on his leading foot and his trailing foot with the heel up, and on the toes. I have asked Richard to comment on this deviation from the book. According to Mindy there is no, or very little weight transfer, and the trailing heel only lifts slightly. In any case i am now working on keeping the trailing arm extended as long as possible, and will report back on my progress.
