I read both books a couple of years ago. I am constantly working on the swing concept. I just logged in on this website and am disappointed at the lack of participation. What seems to be the problem, Jim?
Perhaps everybody has put the sticks up for the year? Nah
Face it, Blake's ideas are not getting the publicity of modern teachers in the golf magazines.
I work on Blake's swing for a while, then switch to something else, like Stack and Tilt;then, back again.
Hello ruffhuff,
A lot of what can be said about the Blake swing has been said and said again and is still recorded in the archives of this forum. Using the Search function you can look up just about any aspect of Mindy's reflex swing. Or, post your own experience with the swing, along with your questions, and comments. I expect you will get responses from old Blakeites/Mindians who would be more than glad to "participate" and perhaps be able to help you. At what stage are you with Mindy's swing? Do you feel that you can "drag" the club down with leg action? Regards, Snakedoc/Jim
Yes, believe it or not that makes forty years I've been swinging like Mindy! We met at Wentworth where I played against him in a singles matchplay around the East Course. We were both off three and he beat me on the 18th with a birdie after a superb 3 wood over the diagonal bunkers which I never thought this senior citizen would carry!
I told him that I was planning to spend the winter weightlifting to strengthen my upper body. He replied "when did you see a boxer who could play golf"?! So he offered to take me in hand as he needed a prototype in front of him to test his theories.
We spent much time together on the East Course practice range and at his home nearby in Virginia Water.
Not for one second have I regretted trading in my willowy sideslap at the ball for the leveraged power of Mindy's method. If I stand in a conventional position now, I feel weak and would have to make an effort to propel the ball. With Mindy's stance and concept the energy is there and reliable.
His thoughts on leverage have served me outside of the game of golf. He was a brilliant man and much regretted. In my business life which by strange coincidence is very involved in the game of golf (!) leverage is for me the key word.
A Google search using key words "Richard Wax Wall Street Journal" will show you my main activity and if we are successful in securing a porperty in St Andrews, be sure that Mindy's name will be prominently displayed and his swing be available for coaching too!
I would like to send our appreciation to Jim, our excellent moderator, for his outstanding work in communicating the Mindy message. Your work is invaluable and I treasure happy memories of out meeting in Florida.
Mindy's method does work and there is plenty of great support thru this forum. It has been quiet lately but the wealth of knowledge and help available here will definitely aid you in your journey to a lower handicap and more consistant & enjoyable play of this great game of golf.
Hang tough...Mindy's swing will always be in your head

Hi Gang...I just found and joined the forum. I've been tinkering with Mindy's swing on-and-off since I met the man, in New York, in the early '70s. I was the sports anchor at WPIX-TV, and Mindy Blake's PR guy brought him to my office. Mindy was publicizing "The Golf Swing of the Future" and they hoped to get some play. Mindy wasn't much bigger than a jockey, but he had very strong hands. He told me all about his swing concept...showed me clippings that told of his prowess in the British Isles. We talked for the better part of half-an-hour...and he left me with an autographed copy of the book, and a practice club that looked like a shortened driver--that made a loud "whack" sound and feel, in the impact area, when you swung it. I've probably read that book 30 or more times over the years, and the sequel "Golf, The Technique Barrier" a few times, too. The technique makes soooo much sense I have never been able to completely get it out of my head. I go away from it...come back to it...go away again...and now for the umpteenth time, I'm back. And this time I may stay. It seems that my sojourn through "single plane" or "natural golf" has helped with some of the nuances of Mindy's swing...and it feels much more comfortable now. I plan to check-out the archived threads, here, and be a frequent poster.
i'm a mindy forum lurker and fully appreciate jim's enthusiasm for helping others on their mindy pursuits - he's done a wonderful job - with me it's all about getting better where better means consistently producing the desired direction, distance, and trajectory of the golf ball with all clubs - an effective and efficient swing that repeats - over the last few years i've embraced and abandoned mindy's ideas many times - i have a hunch that i get too focused on the parts like grip, hands, arms, head, shoulders, etc. - what i do find helpful is using the imagery of a javelin throw to a target to align and position myself for the golf swing; to setup to the ball feeling like my hands will be attached to my shoulders throughout (arms crossed); to be aware my core (belly button) will turn around away from the target in a loading motion and lead a turn around and toward the target to finish facing the target in an unloading motion, body in balance at the finish so that i can watch the ball flight until it lands - what a delicious feeling - at one time i thought things like 'grip change' were important and worked on those parts - lately i'm thinking that the idea of a javelin throw and core turn are the keys - hands, arms, head simply do what they do - out practicing these days this is what i've been doing and i'm getting better - too bad golf season is over - now i can go back to lurking, lol
