Hey if you get stuck and have to use your stock manifold, get your T3 flange cut off and have someone weld a t25 flange on... mase sure they have welded to cast before cause ive seen some crap.
The turbo hangs under the manifold same as S13 engines so screamer pipes n dump pipes fit the back of the T25
High mount looks mad but has many assosiated things needed to work properly like custom dump pipes
If its ball bearing dont forget to put a restrictor in the line as over oiling them will kill BB turbos
I LOVE the Fantasy manifolds i tell ya if i didnt have a missus... I got a T3/TO4E Hybrid but need to save for a decent manifold for it
Stock nissan turbo manifolds arnt to bad if you need to run Low mount, but could do with a die clean up
Dont forget the HKS Topmount FJ manifolds were designed for DR30 so places the turbo too far back in 1600
I was thinking of using one and reverse mounting my turbo with the dump going forward and under and the inlet from a vent and airbox near the passenger wiper

Dont bother cutting and welding stock manifold. It irreversibly damages the good stock manifold which you could later bolt onto a nice gt30. Simply buy a t3-t2 adapter plate or make one.
Garrett ball bearing turbos already come with an inbuilt restrictor. Dont bother wasting your time trying to put one in.

Sorry i only mentioned it cause i know i have bad clearance between the 1600 idler arm and the dump pipe... some adaptors can be thick and would drop the turbo and dump lower melting the bushes
If you plan on anything other than the model turbo upgrade you have planned then keep it as stock as possible
Have you looked at gt30's Graham? I dont think i would run a t25/t28 turbo on a FJ, save them for the SR's and CA's
Your FJ head will flow a fair bit of air compared to those and a correctly suited housing for the exhaust will detirmine your final Kw... dont go getting a rotory or 6cyl turbine housing cause it will take ages but a small to medium exhaust housing on a BB turbo will see you from 250-350kw and will still boost before 3k
The turbo i have is a .48 A/R exhaust and the compressor is a .50 A/R rebuilt with Garrett bush bearing... he recomended that it will see me to a street 250+ but if i want to go lagy .63 or higher A/R a final Kw could reach 300+ but whats the point of having a brag number when a responsive turbo is better suited for streets and i think like me yours will be driven most days
search through here for relevent posts on turbos and there is alot about flow charts and relevent talk from people who have upgraded from the stock T3

Hey mate i dont have a lot of time to reply to all of what you have said..
The disco potato turbo seems like the best upgrade according to the discopotato guy that frequents these forums..
Plus i definately want to upgrade to a BB turbo..
What is so hard about using a top mount manifold compared to a low mount manifold other then the fabriation of a new dump pipe..??

What things are need to be done to fit a disco potato to a top mount manifold...
1. custom dump pipe
2. new water lines
3. new oil lines
anything else

Hey Graham... im guessing you will have to rotate the center unless its be done already to suit top mount...I would be changing my whole exhaust so alot of work for me but if your starting from scratch you can design it how you want...
My suggestion on any car is to run quality external wastegate not those SS Automotive (Ebay ones) cause they stick and boost spike...
I know the Discopotato is internally gated but i would have it welded shut and save up for a fantasy manifold with external wastegate location
When i said alot of sht to do i sorta ment... (oil lines-coolant lines) Not as hard to type but time consiuming or expensive to do
Its the detail and theory put in that will determine how it operates
Before buying one of Ebay or somewhere, go into a turbo recon place and get them to check the turbo's efficiency charts, and discuss if they think it will suit your application. If its possible to get different trims and A/R's picking a profesionals brain for info isnt a bad idea

Mate what do you mean rotation of the thing..
To clatify things.. im not buying anything off ebay..
im getting the GT2860RS with a A.R of .86 which alot of people say go well with a mild FJ
i will be getting a custom top mount exhaust manifold to suit, either through fantasy or somewhere else..
think i may keep the turbo internally gated for now..
im not trying to break any land speed records, just something better then the T3
