| I was just thinking... and had nothing better to do so I decided to try and put forth what I found to be an interesting idea. I'm sure you have all noticed the lack of good storylines in the East Wing. Now, I've tried to create private chronicles and shit on my spare time and so have a lot of other people such as Darren, Joe, Kevin, Alex, Pascalle, the list goes on. They may have had more or equal success as me. But, for myself, I find that I need a sense of, how should I say, stability in my real life before I can design a worthwhile game. That shit comes and goes. -L- So, along with the cool campaigns that other people have been creating, I suggest this as an alternative idea.
First. Start over. Wipe the slate clean. Old characters or new can work but everything should begin anew at ground zero in this campaigne. It's not the game system or the setting or the groups that matters. It's the CHARACTER. So everything else should be built by, for, and around the CHARACTERS. If it benefits the characters (meaning makes them more indepth or enjoyable, not necessarily a thing that gives them more power) then it inevitably benefits the game.
Next. Setting. You have the Ghost Ship. So elaborate on that. Now this may come as a surprise, as everybody knows that the World of Darkness is the system that I've most often played. However, I believe that the setting for this campaign should NOT be in the World of Darkness. Place it in a fantasy world. Like the old days. That worked best. Why, you ask? Because we can design everything and anything about this setting that we feel would be cool. Technology level (i.e. how advanced technologically the setting is) is open for debate. I am somewhat interested in the technology used during the Great War, so yes... that is my vote. In martial terms, that is World War One style guns and machinary. I also believe that the existance of magick and sorcery should level things out a bit. This contrast is fun and it works. I know this from experience.
Another important issue, gaming systems. Don't worry about that. It should not even be an issue. No rules or limitations on systems should exist what so ever, as long as the setting of the campaign is preserved. This means that White Wolf players (including me! :P) in particular will_have_to_compromise. The only real issue about systems is how to resolve combat situations. Let it be up to the individual players who have characters involved. Anybody who wants to should be able to play. There should be no character submission/registration. I believe those things are important in a private chronicle that that is not what this is. In contrast, it might be a good thing if people were to keep a list of characters and their accomplishments/stories at the PERMISSION of the people who play them, for the purpose of advertising this new game.
This campaign could possibly be only the beginning. If this game turns out to be successful, then perhaps players of other rooms will want to become involved. Inter-room politics and intrigues were always fun as hell -L-
And I believe, as it's one of many things that is missing in the Wing today, that it is another key to good player-created campaigns.
So, having said all of that... Any opinions? New ideas?
