instead of Depth Charges mage weapons can be deployed. I myself have come up with a measure against the U-Boats for my own fleet.
Rocks and other implements can be rigged for explosion through magic. Charges can be set through time release. perhaps your own mages can come up with these. if not, I would be more then happy to offer aid in this matter.
Taxing the MA would make them weaker by having to Supply your armies with ammunition.
