Whether Slo is balkan or not really depends on who you ask. They are Balkan, because of their blood ties to other Balkans (Slavic). Yet at the same time, they are considered an Alpinian country for obvious reasons. Geographically, they have more in common with Austria then other Balkan countries (this is because a part of Slovenijan voted to join Austria during one of the World Wars...forget which one. I'm guessing II)
Also, Slovenija was THE trading route to take for many centuries. Empires fought for it because it opened "nothern" Europe, to "southern" Europe. Thus, it can be considered to be the centre of Europe. It all depends who you talk to really.
If you want a firmer answer, I can safely tell you that Slovenija is traditionally considered Balkan, despite their protests. :D

Excuse me but Slovenians are not people from Balkan, we are the samo rase as Germans are, altough we excepted Slavic language. But our culture is closer to Germans than to Croatian, Serbian,...
Even Hitler said that we are germans with slavic language...

not that it helps a lot.. but Slovenia is sometimes included among the Balkanic countries and sometimes not. i believe they are more often excluded than included as part of the Balkans
the following countries are usually included;
serbia&montenegro, bulgaria, part of turkey, macedonia, albania, greece and bosnia herzegovina.
part of romania is also sometimes included, as well as croatia and the already mentioned slovenia

what a stupid question. just look at the map and you will find slovenia partially included as well as hungary. the whole croatia is geographically on the balkan peninsula.
i guess the real question is about balkan mentality. well, the whole europe is one huge balkan. 200 years ago it was france, 90 years ago austria-hungary, 65 years ago germany, 15 years ago ex-yu...

what do you mean just look at the map?? the area commonly referred to as the balkans/balkan peninsula is the area south (and including) of the river Sava and then the danube.
this would then exclude part of slovenia, romania, but include croatia.
but the balkan term has also a wider meaning than the strict geographical interpretation of the peninsula.. political, historical and cultural. that is why romania is sometimes included in the balkans although geographically it should probably be excluded.
however, hungary is in a somewhat different sphere historically, culturally and politically and is therefore included in the central european term. hungary has a lot incommon with some of the balkan history since we're neighbours to the balkans, but hungary was never referred to as a balkanic country or part of the balkan peninsula. (if we're not talking about greater hungary of course where parts of it was balkans)

whose definition? that definition has never been used by historians, experts ni political science, or as the general definition of the peninsula.. that makes about as much sense as drawing a straight line from tirana to istanbul and calling that the real paninsula.. the rest is not REALLY a peninsula is it? or you could draw a line from odessa to nantes.. lol.
we have to go by the definitions that has been used historically and by present day universities don't we?

What the **** is wrong with you people, look at the map what do yo see? Of course is on the Balkan AND WE ARE NOT GERMANS!!!!!! WE ARE THE SLOVANS!!! Slovenija is on the Balkan, it has see in Jadran but also has a Alps, we also have as Croations Međimurje, but we call it prekmurje and the language on that two parts is almost identical (a mix of slovenian and croation language)are nationl food is simular to croation and srbian food, we eat ČEVAPE, FILANE PAPRIKE, SARMO, PASULJ, BUREK(samo da je malo drugačne oblike)BOGRAČ....
SAMO ŠVABI KAŽEJO DA SO SLOVENCI NEMCI ALI LJUDI ISTINA JE TAKA DA TO GOVORIJO SAMO AVSTRIJCI (KOJI SE SMATRAJO DA SO NEMCI ALI U STVARNOSTI SO MJEŠANICA MED NEMCI I SLOVANI), KOJI SO SE UŠTULILI MED SLOVANE IN TAKO PREKINILI VEZE MED SLOVENCI IN ČEHI, I DOKAZ ZATO JE DA SO ČEHI SLOVANI ZATO SMO MI SLOVANI, IMAMO PODOBAN JEZIK (TAKVI JE KAKO DA ZMEŠAL SRBŠČINO I SLOVENŠČINO) I DRUGA STVAR JE DA IMAMO DOSTA PODOBNIK IMEN I PRIIMKOV.
NE SOVRAŽIM HRVATE, SRBE, BOSANCE, MAKEDONCE ALI ALBANCE, ALI SOVRŽIM AVSTRIJO, KOJA MISLI DA JE BOLJA KAO MI SVI (BALKAN)

I believe Slovenia is in Balkanic Peninsula for both geographic and cultural reasons.
Cultural reasons -> Most of Balkanic Peninsula is Slav and it wouldn't make sense if you traced a line separating just only one Slav country (Slovenia) from the other Slav ones and puting it along with Austria in Central Europe, or along with Italy in some other group.
Geographical reasons -> In the same sort Italian Peninsula ends in Alps and Iberian Peninsula is separated from the rest of Europe by the Pirenees, I believe the Balkanic Peninsula has for its natural borders the Carpathic ridge and the eastern end of Alpes, then Slovenia would be inside Balkans natural borders.

"The countries who belong officially to the Balkans are:
- Bosnia & Herzegovina
- SErbia & MOntenegro
- GReece
- ALbania
- Bulgaria
- Southern Romania
- Istanbul and surrounding areas"
Dont forget Macedonia you greek prick. Of course Slovenija is Balkan, simply due to the cultural ties to the other Slavs and partly due to their geographic location. As for their language, which I think may be one of the most preserved of all Slavi clanguages, I have heard that it resembles Slovak and Chzech as much as Serbo-Croat, is this true Slovenci?

Just look at the number of the Slovenian guests on the Balkan forum and you will get a clear picture how much they realate to the Balkan issues.

Being on the Balkans has to do with geography, you cannot feel like being on the Balkans, Slovenia is not on the Balkans geographically, but it has strong cultural and popular ties with their Croatian neighbors and the other Balkan peoples, am I right my Slovenian brothers?
