We just got back from AP and along the East side of the park. The snow base is soft and around 24 to 30" deep. I found out that it is crotch deep!! ie:you can't walk on it!
I figure a good 2 weeks worth of melting and it'll all be gone. There is still hope for April 25th. The creeks will definately be open.
This might be a stupid question but:
If the streams are open and lakes are still iced over, will there be trout in them there streams? (If they are streams that normally hold trout in late May)

Nope, no trout in small streams and/or creeks until after spring runoff is over. Trout are not that stupid. You see, if they go in a small creek and/or stream, they could get stranded there in a pool of water that isn't part of the creek and/or stream.
I wouldn't even think of fishing specks in streams until at least the May long weekend, when blackflies should be out.

Bo, I was afraid you'd say that and have always wondered. I do remember when I was a kid fishing the stream down the hill from my house that the fishing was really good when the blackflies were ate their worst! Good thing is the park won't be very busy after the long weekend.
