Good news on hernia front

Saw the family doctor today and he feels that I can do the solo trip as long as I don't carry canoe and pack at the same time. Says i can't be dumb, if I feel bad I have to turn back instead of going in deeper.

Now if the ice would cooperate as much as my hernia. I haven't booked yet as I was unsure of whether i was going so i won't get dinged by the cancellation fee.

But perhaps you should still consider something like Opeongo
and then day trips to nearby lakes while you determine the status
of portaging on your hernia

Just a suggestion... Lots of easy day trips possible and
a heavy pack carry won't be an issue if base camping Opeongo

This is one of my planned trips this summer

Fantastic news AP!!!!

But just to be safe, perhaps you should hire a "sherpa".

Hey I'll go, any excuse to go to The Park.

Geez..it is so slow at work now...I could take a week off...but I want to save it for paddling season, ya know?

I am still trying to be smart about it and nt take too long of a trip. I usually try to do between 12 to 20 km per day, but this will be reduced. I also don't usually worry about the portage length, but this time, I'm being wise.

right now I am looking at three routes.

1) Access #3 magnetawan to daisy to misty to jubilee to rain home.

2) Access #22 - grand and area. haven't really thought about where each day as it seems there will be a lot of people and perhaps booking will be a challege by this time.

3) Ope to happy to merchant to la muir to hogan to be crow to ope.

The last one was my original thought, but I think there may be too many portages. not sure.

But I'm going so i don't care where at this point. Just can't wait. my concern is now ice not pain.

#1 looks really great.
#3...looong portages...yeah i know, get away from the riff-raff, but given your situation...#1 looks good.
Cheers

Glad to hear of your recovery. But for sure, don't push too fast. Would it be terrible of me to suggest a basecamp deal, doing daytrips without a heavy load?

How will you be handling the shuttle situation for plan #1? What dates are you thinking?

Hey Markus,

i think i'm leaning towards 1 or 2. #3 is too long.

Hey Barbara, as for shuttle, I plan on portaging acbk to access 3.

You might want to take a 4" ace bandage with you. A few years back I had abdominal surgery (blown appendix) and the doc suggested wrapping my gut with one if I thought I might strain myself. It helps the muscles by taking some of the strain and spreading it out

Your IP is showing....

so even though you forgot to enter your name, we know who you are, douG.

Duct tape....so many diverse applications, depending on how much of a sado/masochist you are.

If you require a sherpa, I may be willing to rent out my services for the trip;)

That being said - the Opeongo base camp idea is probably a good one. There are many lakes to day trip to from there and some of the portages aren't too bad. Happy Isle for instance, although being a bit long at 2km, is a pretty easy portage all things considered.
