Just noticed he lodging AD on the Site

ARO - Canada's national radio observatory.
Now open to the public.
Accommodation.
Relax at ARO https://arocanada.com/

H'mmm
Not cheap but it does say:
"rates are in Canadian dollars excluding taxes and are per person per night, including all meals and accommodation"

In the heart of AP on Lake Traverse (canoe use included as well)

I could see this as a "take the sweetheart" type of trip to explore
Lake Traverse ( sadly I don't think it has trout) but Eustache would be a
reasonable day hike and perhaps one would return with a freshly caught trout
to cook on the provided outside BBQ

Maybe it would be a great trip afterall and worth the cost ?
A bit of nostagia for me as well as I could of worked here
when it was a NRC operation but I opted for Ottawa NRC job

Cool, but for that kind of money, I'd rather spend it on a two week interior permit, or longer!

Cheers

well, it would be good for a jump off spot, so that you could leave asap in the morning

Price !!!

March 30 2008, 7:38 PM

Holy crap that's expensive! Especially if you already know what is there(or isn't). I've walked right past the front door in the off season and there's not much around. I may be mistaken but it doesn't look all that comfy (for the money).

Simon....you should take note of what is going on at the other end of your road. Maybe you could build a bunkhouse and make some extra $$$ too!!

The rates include food, I do believe.

What I'm more puzzled by is the need to buy a daily use pass.

Their link to Discovery Channel

March 30 2008, 10:21 PM

If you click on the Discovery Channel link (bottom of ARO history page) it does not take you to the web site expected (www.discoverychannel.ca) but it does take you to a purly advertising site called www.discoverchannel.ca

notice the missing 'Y' in the site they do send you to.

This makes me suspicious of them. As a pure science company that they would use a trademarked link (Discovery Channel logo) and send you to an advertising website is highly suspicious. The links on the site you are sent to even kinda look as if you are on the Discovery Channel website (if you did not know better) and even list regular programming shows ( whose links send yo to further advertising sites based on the show names as if you were searching for stuff with that name).
